Author Topic: bug with painting in Substance Painter  (Read 7788 times)


I don't understand why I'm getting this problem and it's frustrating. I just got Substance Painter, I open up one of the sample projects and try to paint but instead I get this strange black texture that sporadically follows the brush stroke and affects the texture itself. How do I fix this problem?

I actually dont have an appdata folder, so im not sure how to find the log file. I resent the bug report through Substance Painter itself since it says log info is submitted automatically with the report.


You do have an App Data folder its hidden. You have to turn on hidden files and folders in your options.

any update?? I'd like to start using Substance Painter for what it is and I can't if i keep getting this problem :(

I see from your log that you are running on an integrated GPU (Intel HD 4000). Is that correct ? You don't have any other GPU on your computer ?

It's part of the set of GPU that we support (it's the bare minimum), but we really don't recommend them. A dedicated GPU (from nVidia or AMD) is more suited for Substance Painter.

You are using the recommended driver version for your GPU, but I suggest updating. Let me know if it helps regarding your issue.

i plan to get a stronger pc in the near future, but for the meantime are there any settings i can tweak to make painter work on my current laptop?

Not much unfortunately. You can try to tweaks some parameters in your GPU drivers. Painter doesn't offer any parameters of this kind.

I get the same thing. Seems to be a GPU viewport problem, happens when i Paint or Erase. As if its adding a black color in large squares, at first i thought it was purely visual bug, but it is actually adding color because you can erase it afterwards. I am thinking that its applying the mask of the brush it is using for erasing and painting it at the same time?

Video card I've got is GTX 460 and Drivers are up to date.

Your respective GPUs are way below the minimal specs (GTX 6xx) for Substance Painter unfortunately.
