Substance PainterSubstance Painter - Discussions - Texel density.

Hi Folks,  I have a model created in Solid Edge [ Mcad ] It is one model made up of 12 parts that I have combined by a boolean  so in effect the 12 parts are now seen as 1 part. I had to do this because the parts will be Welded together . My welds are terrible in Painter some areas are fine but others are horrible. I have been informed that I need to alter the Texel density on certain areas  Question is, how would I go about that process ?  I do have 3 ds Max if that can be used but.. not a clue as to how to go about it.  [ The welds are fine on small areas but rubbish on the larger areas ]

I usually use only a plain solid colour background for my models but have now decided to try using an actual HDRI environment.  Tried it just now but when I save the render and open the pic ,the background is not showing...  just a white sort of checker board. I would like to show whichever the HDRI I use ... if possible.

Being fairly new to mesh models  I would just like to say that I have noticed vast improvements in the auto unwrapping , had a  few models before that always tripped up the auto unwrap, but the latest version handles them superbly. Well done to the Dev team.

Substance PainterSubstance Painter - Discussions - Smart material.

I am using a Smart material for a particular model, (Chipped worn paint)   I would like to wear off some more paint and expose the bare metal at certain areas that the smart material leaves the paint on. I have played around with the mask ect but still need it off certain areas. Is it possible to maybe add a layer and a white mask somewhere in the layer stack?  I have tried adding a layer and white mask at various places but can't get the paint to wear off and expose the metal.  I like the particular smart material just need to alter some areas.

Hi folks, just tried importing some textures created in Painter into Keyshot Pro 9.3.  I got the error message no uv coordinates for material could be found.  Any idea on what I am doing wrong.

Substance PainterSubstance Painter - Discussions - Mesh size

Just moved this question as I put it in the wrong forum by accident . Here is the question...  Is there a limit to the number of triangles Painter can support in a Mesh ? The reason I ask is,  I have a model of a part of a marine recuction gearbox that I modelled a while back. now I would like to try to texture it in Painter. Set my mesh size to coarse in my Cad translation software  [ it can be user adjusted to any size if need be ] and my edge length to 36mm.  Meshed it no problem but... the mesh has just short of 37 million triangles. would Painter handle that or should I alter my mesh.  I dont know how long it would take to import it into Painter but it meshed in around 4 minutes. there are 26 colours on the model so that would be 26 texture sets . Also I could remove all the inners gears ect as they will not be seen in the painter model.

SubstanceSubstance - Discussions - 413 Request entity to large.

Hello All, One for the tech folks,  When trying to post any pics on the Painter forum using Chrome I always get the error 413 Request entity to large.. even though the pic is only 2.3Mb  Yet at CERTAIN  times I have succes [ even with a larger file ] Also strange happenings when using Edge. Even when I am already  on the Painter forum  and I try to post a pic.. I get the error address could not be found ....and I am already on the forum !!!  Could anyoe shed some light on this. as it is a pest not being able to post any pics when asking for advice.  And I should not have to rely on "Pot Luck " as to whether my pics will post or no.

Hello folks,
                    Being fairly new to Painter [ about 2 weeks ] I have always had gripes about the lack of flexibility regarding the enviroment. so Did some tests and it would appear that the Co ordinate system used by Painter is actually a reverse of that used by Most [ All ] Mcad systems.  I imported a variety of Mcad models from various Mcad software ... Siemens Solid Edge , Siemens NX , Catia , and Pro E [ Creo ] and all come into Painter upside down.  That is not a problem if I am creating the model from scratch  just means I need to sketch on the reverse side of the front plane and go from there. But the imported models will always come in upside down  Which means that the model / enviroment has to be rotated  which in turn means the lighting from the Hdri is not optimal.  I can employ a workaround by Flipping the environment which means I can then get the lighting I need BUT that creates problems with the ground plane.   Ideally I would love the team to incorporate the ability to move the model in all three axis... independent of the environment.  It has a superb render engine in Iray and an equally super screenshot render from Yebis. Just a pity that they are hampered by the aforementioned downside. I am loving Painter though in spite of my moan.

Hi All,  I want to brush on some raised dots to simulate some weld splatter, I did manage.. then I had to leave my project and now for the life of me I can't remember how I got the raised dots. Now when I brush on the same dots they always come in recessed not raised. Where am I going wrong ?

Hello Folks,  Attached is a screenshot of a part I am practising on. I would now like to wear away some paint from the fillet weld.  I created a white mask on the weld layer but.. when I try to brush off some paint from the weld it actually wears off some of the weld.  So, I am obviouly doing something wrong. What would be the best procedure to employ for that task ?

What is a good render engine for use with Substance painter ?   I like Iray.. but the useability is severly hampered by only being able to rotate the enviroment in 1 axis.  As I only mess around with Substance in my hobby There is no way I would pay for a subscription licence for Maya or 3ds Max at circa 1500+ per year, thats ok for a company but not for me.  I would pay for a perpetual licence , so what would be a good engine.  I use Solid Edge for my 3d cad work [ non commercial licence ] so have e mailed  Luxion to get a trial of Keyshot PRO [ as long as I don't need a commercial licence for Solid Edge] What other render engines  offer a perpetual licence ?  that would work well with Painter.

Very strange goings on, Using Chrome,   if I try to attach a pic to a post I get the message Entity to large. even though it is not a large file !  and If I use Edge,   I get the message  Address could not be found. [ even though I am already on the forum.]  Weird.

Pic of my first attempt at creating worn paint.  Since 3 days ago I have gone from almost ditching Painter to Loving it.  Every day is a learning day for me. one step at a time.  My only bugbear with Painter is concerning the Enviroment. I am used to Keyshot pro and Vred where I have full control over the enviroment, ie the ability to move it in 3 axis also the ability to control Reflections from the Enviroment. and a few other parameters.  But I now love using Painter in spite of those points. [ Will have to post the pic in a seperate post... as if I attach it here I get a" Entity to large message " so will try in another post.
