Ah cool now its working.

Thanks for all your help Fabian.

Hey Vincent,

That looks awesome! I would love a bit more in-depth explanation on how your doing that, cuz I am derping it up some how...

I know your working with the Unreal Engen but I would highly recommend checking out Stephen Hauer's advice here:

Understanding Texel Density is so important to making good looking environments.

From naming conventions to scale there are a lot of little things he covers that will help you improve your workflow.

Other then that just have fun and don't be afraid to make mistakes. Mistakes mean your learning and that's something to be proud of.

I did a tiling atlas once and it took a lot of tweaking and planning.

Ultimately the polygon savings didn't add up to as much as I had hoped and the environment looked, well less then it could have if I just used a few extra polygons to smooth shapes out and tile the textures that way.

I was targeting a much older IOS at the time, but now days its likely the average phone can push more polygons then a last gen gaming conceal so you don't need to make things overly complicated on your self to save a few polys.

Thanks for the explanation Cyrille.

Yah having the Max option available in color mode really confused crap out of me when things started acting different. Oh well...

I love Substance Designer and I am really trying to push what it can do so I am bound to fined some rough edges.

Thanks again for all your help.

Here is another example running the exact same graph threw Grayscale and then Color modes.

Gray 0 to 1 value
Color 0,0,0,1 to 1,1,1,1 values

WTF right? Why don't you get the same image. I have tried just about every variation I can think of to get this too work with color mode. Right now my workaround is to use 4 FX-Map nodes set to Grayscale, one for each channel aka R, G, B, A and then recombined them...

Ok I have been trying to figure out what the hell is the problem with using the FX-Map in Color mode...

So I ran the exact same graph threw booth gray and color modes. The only difference was gray scale liner interpolates a single float value from 0 to 1 and color mode was interpolating a float 4 value from 0,0,0,0 to 0,0,0,1 and comparing the Alpha channel to the gray scale. (I also did this test with the color channels, to the same results.)

I really don't want to sound rood here but...

Pleas fix the differences between Color and Gray Scale image processing.

PS: nun of the buttons in the forum like [Bold] [italic] [image] [ext...] work in Microsoft Edge.

Note: The color output is the one on the right...

I just had the same problem, setting the calendar back a day worked... but well its not an ideal fix you know.

So in the advent that alpha is zero, dividing rgb by alpha crashes Substance Designer...

To prevent a crash and still get out the proper color value what should I do?

Thanks for your help.

Hey Vincent,

Thanks for offering to take a look. Unfortunately my client doesn't want me to share what I am working on.

If I have the time I will try to whip up an example.

Luckily I have found away around the problem.

Happy holidays!

After lots of trial and error it seems that the FX-Map node has some problems when set to color, and blending mode max.

Any color value set either 0 or 255 (0 or 1) will be drawn on top of all the color values in-between... so a shape set to 0,0,0,1 will draw on top of 0.5,0.5,0.5,1 but 0.001,will be dawn under 0.5...

Also switching an FX-Map node from grayscale to color or vice versa seems to brake existing function graphs...

Thanks for your help.

So yah this happens when you click the download button in Microsoft Edge a lot...

Perhaps its the .rar file format? However this seams to happen with other file formats to...

Cant we just standardize the .zip file format, its got built in support by all major operating systems, hell even my phones operating system has native support for .zip files.

Why not just stick with .zip files there is built in support for .zip files in both Mac & PC so there is no need to download and install more apps that will just spy on you and get all winey with ads and shit like that...

I have been working on a segmented line/curve generator for a few weeks now and its really starting show some promise!

The Allegorithmic YouTube channel is a good place to start:

You can also learn a lot from picking apart other peoples substances. Just right click on a node to Open Reference, Edit Pixel Processer, or Edit FX Map.
