Thanks for also working on a permanent fix, it is appreciated.

Same issue.

Should have been working for the past hour and a half, instead I spent it trying to troubleshoot a problem that apparently was not on my end.

Painter being so dependent on the server's stability is somewhat a weak spot really, it just wasted a lot of collective hours, and still is for those still unaware of the source of the issue.

I'm trying to add additional maps (through the User channels) to be able to export a partially grayscaled version of the diffuse map (with the rest of it still being in color), but I'm running into several issues trying to achieve this.

-The User channels seem to be always in Linear color space, even when they're set to RGB, or so it looks anyway. I can counter this by adding levels effects to every single layer set to 2.2, affecting only the User channel... but it makes the layer overview noisy and confusing.

-The 'diffuse hsl' substance effect only works on the Base Color channel, even tho you can set the channels it should affect in the properties, so I can't use that to turn single layers into a grayscale in a User channel.

-Making a fill layer filled with gray and setting it to 'Color' or 'Saturation' and putting it on top of the layers you want grayscaled doesn't work as expected. The result is a grayscale that is a lot brighter than the colored version.

There might be a simple solution, but I'm running out of ideas I can think of :/

Great, thanks a lot.

First of all, thanks for all the updates lately, some of them were sooo welcome :)

I've noticed that the clean project feature cleans the lists in painter but doesn't delete the actual files from the project folder, leaving the folders still bloated.

While resaving the cleaned project under a new name fixes this, I imagine the clean up is still WIP and in the end we won't have to resave the project under a new name each time ?

Exporting and Re- exporting maps is unnecessarily painful atm.

I would welcome this too, the current 0 - 1 - HSV approach isn't very handy when trying to match colors with values in other apps. A hex value we can just copy / paste would be awesome.

You can't do this in Painter.

Painter will stop painting exactly on the UV seams, and while it blurs the areas beyond the seams to mimic the pixels on the seams before export, this method can actually produce seams in games, latest when the mipping kicks in. At least on our end, we can't use any normals exported by painter so far for a few reasons, they're too tricky.

Most 3D apps that bake your normalmap should have an option to expand the bake beyond the seam by a given amount of pixels. You should never have to fix this by hand these days, it's barbaric.

Alternatively, if you really can't expand the seams, the xNormal Photoshop plugin will do this too within photoshop ...or you can build yourself a PS action that does the same. If you do it after baking in PS with or without xNormal you'll ideally bake a mask or alpha mask of the UV islands too, as you'll have to mask and cut away the unused background portions of the normalmap before being able to expand its borders.

Hope that makes sense.

Unless I misunderstand how you like to paint your textures, all you need for tiling textures is 1 plane that uses the entire 0 to 1 UV space as usual. Then copy and repeat that plane 9 times and you're good to go.

Paint in the center tile ideally, and when you go over the seams it will wrap around. The wrap around will only work in the 3D window.

Awesome, thanks!

This would be nice to have when imported ID masks aren't defined enough or you want to change some parts... or you have no masks to begin with.

As the title says, when you open a project in painter, all the layer groups are expanded by default and the first thing people here seem to do with them is close them by hand 1 by hand.

It would be nice to have painter either remember the state of layer groups or load them up as tidy as possible (closed)... or have a button at the top to collapse / expand all groups.

Small fries, quality of life stuff :)

Just wanted to ask if there's a changelist someplace where we can see the changes in new builds ?
