Very easy with Alchemist.
I used a brick texture and added the sandy texture to the joints.

I'm trying to make plywood.
Any suggestions be greatly appreciated,

I recently bought Substance Tools, "Panel and Vent Maker" very happy with this. I think its perfect for what you want to do and very inexpensive $7.50. Best thing is it works in SD.

Did you have your your vertex colour on your mesh?
If you dont have vertex colour on your mesh the bakes turn out black.
Also best to use fbx file format.

A bit hard to understand what your doing.
Maybe if you post your file we can see whats going on

I used normal first then normal combined.
Also inserted normal invert, so you see the normal map direction inverted.

You need the normal map correct to give it depth

You have to pack all the uv`s because they are all overlapping

Transform, 2D.

You need to export with Dependencies to have the whole file exported.

Ok Great,

I'm no expert though i can see you base colour map and normal are missing a lot of texture.

I think you have to blend your nodes so the texture is across the whole maps.
Also turn up intensity in your normal node.

As shown in the attached.
