Some "pull ups" with less grain and a smoother finish, some oiled leathers.  Not everything is about car interiors, and most of the leather's done so far are not appropriate when applied to shoes or other fine leather goods which tend to not show much grain at all, and have a mellower gloss or high shine.

Horween makes many fine examples.

Anyone got tips for creating a nice suede?

I am new to procedural shading (well... that's not entirely true, but I've never been very good at the creation part) and trying to really get my hands dirty.

I'm starting from a fractal sum base and gradient map built from a photo, but it's obviously just not enough.  I need more directionality, more shag and needs to be softer.  So far, nothing I have tried working in is getting me where I need to go.

Any thoughts, pointers or tips would be appreciated!

Any tips on a shoelace type material?

I have no problem if it starts in Designer, working to learn the whole process.

After watching many excellent tutorials and doing quite a bit of research, I have created my first texture set. I used multiple masks to define areas for separate materials, used smart materials and other materials.  Ended up with quite a set of layers and a resultant texture that I am very pleased with for my first attempt.

But now I want to damage and dirty it up a bit and I am wondering what is the best way to go about this as most dirty and damage materials involve masks that destroy or override the masks that I already have in place.

This is not a criticism, just a workflow question. Did I approach this wrong? Should I have planned for this eventuality? I'm not sure how I would have done things differently.

Trying to get a custom MDL from SD 5.5 to Daz Studio Iray, and its failing in both public release and beta builds.

There was a suggestion on their forums that the MDL was importing custom libraries, which I found hard to believe because it sort of defeats the purpose of a self contained language.

I do have a ticket open with Daz3d, but I was hoping someone here could confirm that there are no custom libraries and an MDL file created in SD should be portable (with its dependent resources of course, like PNG or what have you).

Substance PainterSubstance Painter - Discussions - Pretty noobish question

Hi!

So.. I'm not much of a modeler, I mostly use other people's assets. But I'm getting into the depths of this stuff, learning texturing first because it has always fascinated me.

Anyway, the question: if I don't have a low res and a high res version of the asset, am I SOL when it comes to "smart"? I'm only slightly grasping the reasons for baking maps at this point (probably because I'm not high on the modeling yet), but I think I understand. If I only have the one resolution because that's the res its made to work at, what can I do from this point?

Loving the products, BTW, and the video tutorials, learning to do not-so-simple things right out of the box. Great stuff
