I know I'd be keen to give it a try :)

Looks like all the work you put into your stone textures has been in vein...

Fixed it.

Had the plugin in the engines install folder instead of my projects folder.

Hi Everyone,

I'm getting the following error when I try to do a shipping build for my UE4 project:

MainFrameActions: Packaging (Windows (64-bit)): UnrealBuildTool: LINK : fatal error LNK1181: cannot open input file 'D:\Unreal Engine\4.4\Engine\Plugins\Substance\Binaries\Win64\SubstanceCore-Static.lib'

I'm using 4.4 and the latest plugin download off the site.  Am I supposed to figure out how to build a static version of SubstanceCore?  (the file above isn't anywhere to be found).

4.3 is out! 4.3 is out! 4.3 is out! 4.3 is out! 4.3 is out! 4.3 is out!

How about that plugin eh?

Awesome, thanks guys.

I've finally got the hang of SD after watching Wes's tute on cracked concrete, and have just got the hang of coding in UE4 so I'm pretty much in Simon heaven at the moment :)

I'll add to the conversation as I only just had to deal with a related issue last week.

I made a nice substance material based on a 2048 concrete texture then brought it into an architectural scene I'm doing in Unreal Engine 4. The diffuse/normal/spec/gloss features in the substance looked great but they also amplified tiling artifacts which I'd originally suppressed in the diffuse texture in Photoshop.

Normally with this sort of thing I mitigate the tiling by using a noise map in the Unreal material editor to blend between two copies of the texture (one of them being rotated and scaled differently from the other).

I tried to recreate this inside the substance, but when I rotate and scale the second copy of the diffuse texture it doesn't tile properly in the sbsar in UE4.  It was only at that point that I realised that while substance may be a procedural material generator, it's still bottlenecked by the way it makes its procedural textures available to its host applications (everything has to happen inside a finite square).

Don't get me wrong though, substance designer is sensational.  Just be aware that there are still some things you'll have to do in your engine.  For instance, I solved my problem above by using a combination of the map generation in substance (norm/spec/gloss) and mixing between two copies of them in the material editor in UE4 (as described above).

4.3 preview dropped today, no substance plugin???

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to give a call out to this slightly older youtube tutorial on dynamic concrete that has really been the one that helped me get my head around substance designer and finally start making my own materials:

Great tute, good work Wes :)

Hi Everyone,

So just a small feature request - how hard could it be???  :P

Any chance you brainacs at Allegorithmic can figure out how to tile a texture along an SVG path with an animatable offset so that we could simulate texture flow along an arbitrary line?

Btw, I figured out that the error message I was getting in the new project window was not about not finding the sample content, it was being caused by the default folder location for new projects being over the network which UE4 didn't like (you just change it to a local location and it all works fine).

Hi Guys,

I have no problem building Allegorithmics version of UE4, but when I run the build it can't find the sample content or the launcher.  It offers me an installer for the launcher which installs fine but then it can't find the build (just says "no engine installed").

Any suggestions?

Hi Nicholas,

Thanks for making those available, I am however having some trouble figuring out how to get the gunformer example working like you have in the youtube video.

When I drag the FBX into the 3D viewer, no model shows up.  When I try to view the file on disk it says it can't find the file.  Am I just doing something wrong or is the FBX not included in the download?

Hi Guys,

Thanks very much for the tutorial links and the samples, that's certainly enough to keep me busy for a while.  Hopefully I can start showing up here with some cool stuff of my own :)
