Substance PainterSubstance Painter - Feature Requests - Shared VRAM
 on: February 20, 2019, 07:29:06 pm
It's rather a question, that a direct feature request: is there any plans to make it possible for Painter to dump some data from VRAM to a RAM if there's not enough of it? Maybe that's what are you planning to do to fit UDIMs in Painter and this feature is already on it's way?
I'm now in a business of picking a new GPU, so it would be nice to know what can be more important for comfortable work in Painter in the near(ish) future: VRAM size or good ol' computation speed or even raytracing.

This is my entry. Inspired by recent episode of Doctor Who and it's Emojibots. And by Stormptroopers, Mass Effect Andromeda, Pacific Rim, Iron Man and who the hell knows what else.  :)

Pretty rough and at concept stage. So much to do, so much decisions to make! :-)
This robot indicates what on his mind on a display. In Doctor Who these guys just killed everyone, but Mat-Emojibot seems to be in the mood for some Substance magic.  :)
I have more or less consistent idea of the story and character of this guy, but I still have to figure out what for he was designed and for what environment. Planning to make him used, but not heavy - just a dust a maybe few scratches. No heavy damaging!

That's strange how geometry limitations boosts creative choices! I felt that than started to work on this, and as I can see by the number of contestants with brilliant ideas - that's not only my feeling.  ;)
Thanks to the Allegorithmic for inspiring us!

Hi! By some reason Sketchfab export preset seems to broke at some point, and now I can export only 3 maps through it.
Is there a way to fix this? Another presets seems to work fine.

It's all started as a entry to the Sketchfab 3D Sculpting Challenge: Underwater Creatures. Despite of obvious theme, it actually quite deep and interesting. I found this fiddler crab online, but when tried to gather references - there was lack of them. This crab seems to be quite rare, so thanks to the Sketchfab team for the opportunity to find out about that majestic creature and for a adding new item to my bucket list - to see this gorgeous animal IRL. Turned out that contest judges also liked this creature, so he make it to the honorable mention as a result. After that I made retop of this animal, textured and animated it. Now it's dancing! This is not just some random moves - it’s actually Uca Mjoebergi’ mating dance - as you can see, it’s showing off his bigger claw and trying to convince you in his own maturity and masculinity. If you scroll down, ya'll see some stages and even original sculpt. Model with textures available for download through Sketchfab, as always.
