Never mind, read finally that they go in the 'materials' folder unopened in doc/alleg or substance....what I did this morning is just delete everything related to Substance off my PC and will reinstall. Not a problem just time-consuming to find, get, and reinstall the assets. Last night was placing assets in 'materials' but they didnt show up. I'm going to forget that and say i was tired at the early hour.
But one last question if I may. I was putting all my smart materials in the smart material folder. I had alot I guess because it was slow to load what didnt come with Substance and was cranky to navigate thru them. Is it possible and indeed preferable to use my own folders...say instead of one 'smart materials' to create a sm_metal and a sm_wood?
Thanks and sorry to clog the forum with silly questions.

 Yes i'm lost again.

Regarding Substance
When I drop them in the respective smart materials or materials folders do they stay in the archive or do they need to be unzipped into folders of their own.

Can I create extra folders as well as use the preset folders like 'fabric' or 'metal'

What are sbsasm files and can they be used in Substance or do they require processing in Designer.

Am interested to trying to recreate the wonderful textures for the architecture from Assassins Creed Odyssey...those wonderfull brick and plaster walls that are old and worn. And trying to get all the smart mats and mats loaded that I can find.
Thanks,
Scott

I have an older Substance Perpetual License to Indie that ended summer of last year I think. The newer spsm coming out wont load into mine. I want to make sure I understand how to update

If I do the 9.95/month option does my version of Substance then update to the current one? If not then what do I need to do.

If I do that and get my Substance updated then cant keep my monthly do I still have access to the older version I have now or do I keep the updated version.

I know its a great deal but am out of work and in school to change careers so I really have to watch expenses.
Thanks
Scott

Sorry that this is probably so obvious but is 3a.m. of a very long day. I have been wanting to get back into 3d and splurged on some new spsm packs from Artstation. Of course was too stupid to remember I have old version and none of these work.
I have 2017.4.2 and would like to see what I do to update to current. Unfortunatle I cant do a sub as have been out of work for a year and paying the estate atty fees to set up my dad's estate. yea, I know, dont ask. So if it is feasible I want tp update so I can use these spsm s. Thanks alot and apologies I havent been able to really support Substance this past year or so. Just amazing software.

 Happy New Year,
I have an old version of Substance which is no longer under maintenance. My points for Substance source are all gone so I cannot get the 15 new medieval materials. How would I go about getting more points to get these, they look really nice.
Thanks,
Scott

If you redistribute that substance as part of the asset, it likely falls into the non-acceptable cases.
If the asset simply uses textures derived or exported from that substance, you should be in the clear.

So as I understand it using just the mat from substance share or a smart mat would not be allowed but taking that mat as a base and either going thru Designer or painter to alter it is allowed? Am also wondering where people get the base to take into Designer to create smart mats?
Thanks,
Scott

SubstanceSubstance - Purchases & Licenses - confused on license
 on: January 10, 2018, 09:05:03 am
...ok so feeling dumb. Just cancelled my recurring and paid the 45 bucks to own painter 2. My software showed there was an update which I applied. Now somehow ive got what appears to be painter and painter 2 on my machine and of course I just want painter2. Substance Painter, version 2.6.2
Build 1875 - 5224216d4421f1a7b8357d6cd38f280f3bf11453
But also whats confusing is that when I go to download my software in my acct there isnt a painter 2 listed. Both Painter listed are jusr Painter. Do I no longer have Painter2? I had installed on my newer pc as I finally have the time to finish installing things...

It shows 28 days remaining. Does that actually mean anything? Nothing should expire.Sorry for your server because it seems I had mistakenly installed all my extra smart mats and mats in painter instead of painter2.
alright I give. Thought i'd be smart and just save and copy over the smart materials content from painter to painter 2 but they wont because the mat versions are newer than the software but thats sp2 and the other was just painter. No clue what happened or what to do.

Hi Guys,
As I have become unemployed ive stopped my monthly payments and bought substance. Will continue to study and learn and use Painter alot. Just wanted to tell you guys that the software is amazing and from someone who has worked retail for 35  years you give tremendous customer support. Keep doing what you're doing. Hopefully be employed again soon, but in the meantime will be studying :)

Substance PainterSubstance Painter - Discussions - Re: texturing question
 on: October 23, 2017, 08:40:53 pm
Thanks, I've been using 2k maps and they look great. Will just do a piece or so at a time and send to marmoset or maya. I was thinking I could bring the whole thing in to texture and prevew but in hindsight that was kinda dumb :)
Thx again,
Scott

Substance PainterSubstance Painter - Discussions - texturing question
 on: October 21, 2017, 05:17:38 am
Wish to know if I should be bringing the entire mesh into SP2 all at once and assign textures or just one piece at a time. I'm texturing and exporting mats to render in Maya. Was thinking I could texture the entire mesh and see what it looked like but its freezing my laptop. SP2 seems to be a real resource hog but as i'm not an advanced user by any means no clue what the workflow should be.
Thanks,
Scott
