Save As isn't working. When I save a material under a new name, it does create a new json file in %AppData%\Roaming\Allegorithmic\Substance Alchemist\createdMaterials

However, the new material doesn't show up in the collection in Alchemist.

Version 2020.3.2

Why is this still not fixed? This is awful design.

Yup, I downloaded the latest update and now it works great. Thanks a lot for fixing this!

I have a perpetual indie licenses on the allegorithmic website with maintenance till november 29.

So let me get this straight:

If I get a $150 sub on November 30, after one year, I'll be screwed because the software won't work anymore and my current perpetual license will go poof because it's been converted to a subscription (and in any case I wouldn't be able to open files saved with the newer version from the sub anyway).
If I get perpetual licenses on steam, I have to pay $300 instead of $150.
If I wait till the last moment to get maintenance for the next year, I'm still screwed out of a month and then after a year I'll have to pay double for the Steam version.

Is there an option where I'm not screwed?

Medium - Technical Support - Head tracking lag and stutter
 on: September 02, 2020, 09:42:03 pm
I'm experiencing lagginess, and stutter when moving my head, which is extremely unpleasant. As long as I don't move my head, sculpting and moving my hands is perfectly smooth. The Oculus Rift UI, when running on top of Medium, is perfectly smooth as well while Medium stutters in the background.

I normally run my desktop at 4k60, but switching to 1440p120 alleviates the stutter. The lag however is still present. The desktop refresh rate shouldn't matter at all for VR apps, so this is quite bizarre.

I'm having the same problem.

Has this been fixed yet?

we understand your apprehension and the last thing we want is to deceive you or lose your trust.

But you see there's the rub. You're not in any position to make any promises anymore. The evil Adobe people will just override any and all of your decisions.

And after they've bled dry your userbase and your talent, stagnation will follow, just like in all the core Adobe products that haven't received significant new functionality in many many years.

This is a sad day.

+1. Please allow us to merge the texture sets on export.

Painter relies heavily on the highpoly-baked-to-lowpoly workflow, while in archiviz you tend to just render the highpoly assets directly. Depending on how you like to set up your models and materials, you may or may not like to use painter for archiviz. Painter can be useful to create imperfections, a little bit of dirt, decals, etc, but it won't replace Designer and/or Photoshop by any stretch of the imagination.

That said, it's really easy to learn, so you'd be remiss not to learn it if you already own the license.

I'm always amazed by the people at Allegorithmic. I can't think of a single other company that would do this. The price didn't even bother me that much, and the price drop puts it where I expected it to be in the first place. I just hope Allegorithmic won't be too hurt financially because of it.

For me iRay is just a tertiary extra. It's not bad, but neither is it a function that helps me do my work. It may be worth 300$ a year for Max, but it's also vastly more useful in Max.

The moodpack I don't care about either, I make all my own materials in Designer.

So yeah, 100$ is somewhat steep when you consider only what's in the package, but I upgraded anyway because I have faith in Allegorithmic that the updates that will happen until Painter 3 will make it worth it. YMMV.

Alrighty then, thanks :)

Okay... What constitutes a valid proof of purchase? I mean, you already have all the data on our purchases and licenses, what further proof do you need?
