SubstanceSubstance - Purchases & Licenses - Upgrade painter
 on: May 09, 2019, 06:05:55 pm
I am considering upgrading from SP 1.3 but cannot find the option.

Thanks, Robert Glotzbach

Thanks a lot Andreas,

Definitely helpful yes, thanks a lot.
I was just wondering; would be good if upon creating materials in C4D, the process would recognize which method was used by looking at the output names and then populate the material(s) accordingly.

Thanks a lot, Robert

Hey Guys,

I started to change some substances from Metallic/Roughness to Specular/Glossiness thinking that the last would be the desired method to be used in C4D. But now I start to doubt whether it is necessary at all, don't even remember how I got that idea.

Thanks, Robert

If you go to preferences/projects, you can add file paths to your configuration.
Your files will then show up in your library if you applied the right filters in the library.
Create a folder in the right pane off the library and then right click to see you options.

Regards, Robert

Ok, nevermind, I found the diffuse output its on a location I did not expect. ;-)

Ok thanks a lot Cyrille,

its a pity but I was prepared for this answer.
I am not planning to triangulate in C4D, this is for a animated short not for a game, hopefully it will not give me the problems you are describing.

Substance DesignerSubstance Designer - Technical Support - N-gons?
 on: May 20, 2015, 08:21:32 am
At first I thought that I was having trouble with my normals since a lot of my poly's don't show in the 3D view. Now I come to believe that its because of N-gons that they don't show.

Is that correct?
I looked in the online help but could not find anything related to it.

Thanks, Robert

Substance PainterSubstance Painter - Discussions - Re: Export to SBSAR

Ok thanks a lot Vincent,

Whats the most common workflow for people, do they output their bitmaps from SP and then bring them into SD and put it all together to create an sbsar?

Hey stefanbest0794,

to add to Vincent's answer you can't export SBSAR files from Substance Painter. Substance Painter outputs solely bitmaps.

Best Regards

Are you saying that its not possible at all, I mean is there a workaround, you cannot get the spp files into SD can you?

Thanks, Robert

OK, I made some substances before all the output names changed, so they did not get recognized. Proper labels output names seems to be the key ;-)

Some of you might know allready that the plug-in to C4D became available.
So far I'm very happy with it.  :)

There is one problem, that is that if I import my own sbsar into C4D and creat a material from it only the normal slot gets occupied withe the substance shader. The provided "goodie sbsar" files does it flawlessly, so it must be something with my sbsar. Any idea,.... the outputs do show up in the atribute manager when I click the file from the asset manager.

Thanks, Robert

I think Fabian meant that your model should consist of only polygons. SD cannot recognise modifiers from other 3d apps.
You will need to convert your model to pure polygons in your 3D package. You can then after painting in SD bring in your painted maps in you program and apply them to the model you worked with.

I found this link about the intergration, also about Houdini's

Don't know why,... but this works for me. after copying the files to the advised folder, start SP and before the materials get updated -meaning immediately- load a mesh in. Then have a coffee,................ or maybe two :-)

I solved it by connecting the two meshes on export, but I don't remember this step necessary before.
Might be wrong of course.

It did not solve my problem, because now with 2 texture sets instead of 1 DefaultMaterial, my previous work on the project does not show up. Exporting as obj gives me only 1 texture set.
How do others deal with this?
