Yes, my driver is up to date.

By up to date, do you mean the latest from Nvidia (assuming you're using Nvidia card), or you are using the currently prescribed driver?,22711.0.html

When an app acts up, the first step in troubleshooting is often to update your GPU to the latest drivers. I've had a few hiccups/crashes/performance issues, outside of Painter and I can't help but wonder if it's because my drivers are something like 8 revisions behind.

On a number of occasions I have gotten crashes/hangs when painting in a mask. I am losing work. I am running the latest version of Painter. Win 10 64 bit. i7, 32 gb RAM, 1080.

Is the advisory to use Nvidia driver 388.71, still in effect? Those drivers are from December 2017...

Hey all - I'm trying out the instantiate across texture sets feature today and am experiencing an issue.

None of the instantiated layers are conveying the parent's color. Every other material catagories (Height, rough, etc) show up but not color.

Am I doing something wrong?

I have since executed a File/Clean, and that error has gone away. Unfortunately, however I continue to get the freeze-up. I'm losing work 15 or so minutes at a time, when I forget to constantly save.

I have been using Dropbox on previous, very similar assets for a few weeks now and this is a relatively new (well the last 5 or so days) occurrence. Furthermore, I am no longer autosaving to my dropbox folder, but within allegorithmic/Substance Painter/Autosave, and continue to get freeze-ups.

It looks like an image in your project is corrupted, can you look through your stack in generators, fills and filters if you see any red cross instead of one of the image inputs for bakes and such? If there is, try deleting the culprit asset (remove the bake from the Mesh maps slots in your texture set and clean the project, then save the project and rebake/reimport the corrupted texture.

While working it's also a good idea to pause the Dropbox syncing so it doesn't interfere with the saving process.

I've been getting this error today:

Well that update was wrong. I'm still having freeze-ups. I think it may have something to do with autosave, and the fact that I'm saving to Dropbox. As if a autosave file is trying to write, while dropbox is uploading, perhaps?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will try saving to a different local folder, in the meanwhile.

Seems to have been something with that file. I finished the asset and have moved onto the next with no issue. Gremlins I guess...


Hey all - I am working on a file that every once and a while will lock up. I will for instance, click a layer and the aqua colored status bar will begin growing and then stop. Eventually I get the white screen overlay and end up having to kill the process. I'm losing work here and there, and I'm pulling my hair out.

Oddly, when looking in task manager after a lock up I notice that Tortoise SVN is getting in the game. Could this be what's causing the issue. The file in question is NOT saved within an SVN project, but in a local DropBox folder.

Any thoughts?


Could there be a file somewhere on my machine that is missing/corrupt? I did some housecleaning a couple of days ago, and uninstalled older versions of Painter and Designer.

While I'm able to download from the web, it would be nice at some point to regain the functionality of accessing source from Painter.

Fortunately, I am able to download via web browser.

When attempting to download from Source, I get the error below, and the download does not begin. I have 194 downloads available, and I have rebooted my machine to no avail. I'm running 2018.1.0

The quick mask feature is great. However, the checkerboard pattern obscures detail of the un-masked mesh while in material mode.

Granted (as I recently discovered) you can view w/o the checkerboard in Base Color mode. Unfortunately though, (unless I'm missing something) you have do then reset the mask in order to see your progress in Material mode.

Totally. As long as I can still see what is masked (preferably w/o the checker pattern), when I'm translating it, that sounds great.

I know you guys have mentioned that you have something in the works (granted it was a year or so ago).

A means to move/scale/rotate/ a layer would be a seriously awesome addition. Even better would be the ability to select part of a layer and translate it, independent of the rest of the layer.

Freakin' love Painter. Keep it coming! :)

Has there been any movement on implementing this feature in Painter?

I have 6 texturesets that I would like to have their channels merge into their respective textures. I have 6 textures exported from 6 texturesets, and while I can combine them in PS, it would save me a lot of time, if I didn't have to.
