Put a different material color for each object.

Heres what I got so far. I like it other than if my UV shells arent all the right direction the lathe turning marks get screwed up on direction, so I have to mask those out , duplicate the layers then rotate to make all the lathe turning grooves to all go the same direction.

I used SD to make a sbsar for only height information.
now Ill see what I can come up with for a mill finish.

Thanks Vincent. Your feedback is just what I was looking for. I will keep trying in Designer, I have very little experience with Designer, but I love playing and learning with it..  Cant wait to see what you come up with.   :)

Need some advice for normal height metal finishes.

Every metal part on a gun was either turned on a lathe, mill, grinder or stamped out. Each has its unique patterns. Check this link to see what I mean. http://www.amazon.com/Fowler-52-720-000-Roughness-Standards-Specimens/dp/B00B5HQWFO

What would be the best way to get different types of metal normal height finishes on my guns depending if its like the barrel and has a lathe pattern-finish or the receiver which has a more of a milling pattern. Should I design a substance in designer?,  or should I make stencil and try to paint only height information in painter and save as a smart material ? or?.  Here is a picture of what Im after, you can see the lathe turning marks,  http://www.nramuseum.org/umbraco/ImageGen.ashx?image=/media/47404/01860_d4.jpg&class=FlashViewer
Thanks Chuck

I just finished up my AKM. I followed along with Tim Bergholz's gumroad tutorial and must say its the best one I have seen on weapons. He uses 3DS Max and Substance Painter. If any one is into modeling weapons using 3DS MAX and Substance Painter its a must video to own. Here are my results.

Yeah, and it sort of worked. It didn't crash instead it jacked up my layer stack. It also corrupted the .spp  file. I needed a fresh install of Windows anyhow, I can't stand Win 10 and not being able to shut off windows update without editing a registry file.  So far with Win 8.1 no problems, but I haven't had time to fully test it all out.

I disabled the Tdr and I just now downloaded the latest drivers and still crashing. Im going to bite the bullet and uninstall Win 10 and Install Win 8.1

I tried the new SketchFab export (which is so Awesome) for the first time tonight and I didn't get good results. I didn't change any export settings. I selected export to SketchFab.

In SP notice how straight the lines are           www.wilsonsstudio.com/wellsvilletrails/Images/Capture.JPG

Noticed how warped the lines are.                          www.wilsonsstudio.com/wellsvilletrails/Images/Capt1ure.JPG
