Had the same question.  Painter has a "Check for Updates" and Designer doesn't?  Seems a bit inconsistent.

We are truly at a "wait and see" stage here, and the Allegorithmic guys deserve the benefit of the doubt. Every possible question and speculation has been covered in this thread. The deal is done so let's just wait and see how it shakes out. :)
Unfortunately, I can't take the time to "wait and see". I'm shortly entering my eighth decade and waiting isn't something I can deal with anymore.

I know if it becomes subscription (only) with Adobe, I'll go elsewhere.  I'm also not going to pay another year's fee for my perpetual licenses either, until things are clear (I guess I do wait on some things!)  Probably forced to go elsewhere.

When Substance finally gets UDIMs, Adobe will say "hold on with that update, let's save it for CC subscribers only".

Exactly!  I strongly suspect maintenance updates will be manipulated, which goes against all the "ethical stuff" we are hearing from Allegorithmic right now.

My perpetual yearly maintenance expires in August 2019 (purchased it in August 2018.)  Can I expect the same quality up of updates (maintenance) for the 6-7 months that I paid for?  Or will the "crew" be working on updating there letterheads, resumes, and Adobe stuff like company training and integration into CC?  Should I be afraid of installing an update to Designer or Paint before my yearly maintenance ends?

Like many others, I maintain an Adobe free workflow and will continue that in the future.

Well, that's it for me. I gave up on Adobe a couple years ago so it looks like Allegorithmic will be next.  Maybe Serif will pick up the slack.

Now it's working.  I'm guessing I needed to wait a while when launching the new version so the shelf can be initialized.  This morning I just started the app and let it sit.

Can't get the latest 2018.2.1 build to initialize.  I notice "Generating thumbnail(s)...." is displayed in the lower right corner.  Task manager shows Painter using 14gb and cpu 25% load.

I uninstalled 2018.2.1 and installed 2018.1.3 and it runs fine.  Re-installed 2018.2.1 --- same problem.

Thanks -- that fixed the problem!  Can't believe I did that, but I guess I'm getting old.  Sorry I wasted your time. -- Jerry

I just update Substance Painter to version 2017.3.0 Build 1837 and get the TDR message.  I used the link in the message but the instructions are confusing at steps 3 - 5 (at least to me.)

It says:

3.  Navigate in the tree on the left of the Registry Editor window and go to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ GraphicsDrivers
4.  If it doesn't exist, do a right-click > new > REG_DWORD in the right part of the window. Name it TdrDelay and set the value to 60 (in decimal mode).
5.  If it doesn't exist, do a a right-click > new > REG_DWORD in the right part of the windows. Name it TdrDdiDelay and set the value to 60 (in decimal mode).

Okay, I assume step 4 "If it doesn't exist, ...." add the dword TdrDelay x96 (60 dec)

Then step 5. has another "If it doesn't exist, ...." add the dword TdrDdiDelay x96 (60 dec)

So I'm assuming if TdrDdiDelay doesn't exist, to add it also?  So two new entries to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ GraphicsDrivers

Anyway, I did that and restarted my system and Painter still throws out that message

Thanks, I see it now, under Input Parameters.

Just getting started with the first tutorial for SD4 "My First Substance."  Everything seems to work until I get to step 13.  I followed step 12 with the "expose" and called the parameter "Dirt".  However, when I "double click in the graph view and check the Input Tweaks parameters" nothing happens.  Where is the "Input Tweaks" panel supposed to show up?
