Hello Froyok,

I found out that normal map causing these seams around my stamp. I am using Bitmap2Material to extract normal map information, but border edges of image is fill with that blueish normal color and in fact this causing edge seams. Painting only with color information does not causing seams. I would like to know if there is any way to deal with this issue?

Best Regards,
Dian

Hi Froyok,

Now i see the point of additional fill layer for custom normal map.

Thank you very much for your reply!

Hello,

I am trying to painting with custom image, but what i have noticed after put my image is some kind of falloff or seams appear around my stamp image. Alpha for the brush is turn off, but i made some test with alpha turn on and choose Shape alpha whit pyramid shape and crank up the hardness parameter and seams mostly disappear.
But I am wondering whether this is the best way to deal with problem?

Substance PainterSubstance Painter - Discussions - Normal base layer ?
 on: July 28, 2015, 12:53:42 pm
Hello,

I am wondering why this layer is added like fill layer after normal channel is on? What is the purpose of that Normal base layer ? I have already applied  fill layer with all maps plus normal, but i notice that the second fill layer take significant role with lightning of my object with uniform light color or something like that. I am confused, should i need to keep this normal map layer ON or i need to turn it off and use only normal channel applied by my fill layer that i am using to fill with material my object?

Best Regards,
Dian

Hi Wes, i have a stupid question, what sbar do you load in Modo, when in Painter you didnt use any material (Uniform color), but create only a paint layer , and you have painted with Color/Metal/Roughness activated. I cant transfer the map created in painter to modo, with this kind of material.

Franck

Hi Franck,

From Painter, I would export using the PBR_SpecGloss preset. This will give you a converted specular map. However, you will need to invert the glossiness map in Modo by hitting the invert button on the texture layer. It would be best to create an export preset. I have attached a preset here. You can add the preset to this location. C:\Users\xxx\Documents\Substance Painter\shelf\export-presets.

Cheers,

Wes

Wes, if i using PBR_SpecGloss to export all of my maps what Effect should i use in Modo for Glossiness map? Roughness? And from what i understand, the only changes that need to be done is to invert the Glossiness map, is that right?

Also if i using Modo 901 custom presets that you kindly provided, is there any further changes that need to be made in Modo, like inverting and so on?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Dian

Ah, I see. I think you have an older version of the plugin. We fixed this issue. Can you please try this latest version. The colorspace is handled correctly.

Wes YOU put an end to my agony!!!! I am alive AGAIN :)

Voilà

I discover what happened when Importance Sampling is not enabled:

-Normal map color space now work in linear space by default - perfect!
-No further issue with Roughness.

Big thanks for your help Wes and for spending time on my issue!

Best Regards,
Dian

Yep, here is what i get using provided sbsar file from you:

Also i set the normal map to 2.2, because you can see what happen on second screenshot if not do it.

And you can check my result on third picture with Roughness set to 2.2 = linear.

38
Well explained, but still I can't match Substance render with Modo. As you can see from attached files i am trying my best to catch up and setup what was described early, but not happy at all... i have suspicion that Roughness map need to be 2.2, because is not shown the correct color space i think...

FBX attached.

Also how to get these additional parameters for normal map to set it to 1? For me they are missing...

Screenshot is attached.

40
Hi Wes,

Nice explanation related to my issue! Thank you Wes!

Sorry for my dumb question, but how to connect the specular map to Metal 006 substance ?

Screenshot has been attached.

Hello Wes,

For me the mention workflow from first post not working at all...

Here is examples attached to this post and I am wondering what is wrong?

Best Regards,
Dian

Hi Wes,

Still can't get normal map to work as you describe early post.

Here is what i have in Modo :

Please find the attached screenshots.

-Still needed to change the gamma to 2.2.
-Normal map appear much more dark in some spot if not changed to 2.2.

Best Regards,
Dian

There is need of changing color space for normal map in Modo somehow. To achieve correct color space i just set NM to linear and everything looks fine, but when using Substance plugin my concerns become true and NM generated by SD shows up incorrect and a lot darker color. What i am trying to do is to set the gama parameter from 1.0 to 2.2 and it seems that this fixed the issue, but i am not sure this is the best way to do it.

The reason why i am asking for Image still tab option.

Best regards,
Dian

Hello Wes,

Me again :) I started to use Substance Designer and try to figure out how to be integrated on my pipeline for future project that i am currently working on.
I wanted to report nasty bug that occurring every time when i am trying to load up my scene but this is causing Modo to explode:)

What i found out is that when creating null substance texture and save my scene and decided to close Modo that actually causing this crashes on loading the scene with null substance locator into it.

Report file also has been attached.

Thank you Wes,

Regarding color space management in Modo, you take this in account at the end of tutorial (update version), but it will be nice to have control through image still tab and also UDIM available/support.

Best regards,
Dian
