Hello everyone!

In Substance Designer 2021.1.2 (11.1.2), we fixed an issue impacting the refresh process of Library thumbnails. You may have experienced this issue in the form of thumbnails 'stuck' on their refresh icon.

We strongly recommend you manually trigger a rebuild of Library thumbnails, by following these steps:
  • Open the Edit menu
  • Select the Preferences option to open the Preferences window
  • Select the Library section
  • Click the Rebuild thumbnails button
The thumbnails should then be updated to their expected image.

Alternatively, you can delete the thumbnail images from your system before starting Substance Designer. They are stored at the following location per OS – you may delete the thumbs folder altogether:
  • (Windows) C:/Users/[USER_NAME]/AppData/Local/Allegorithmic/Substance Designer/databases/thumbs
  • (macOS) /Users/[USER_NAME]/Library/Application Support/Allegorithmic/Substance Designer/databases/thumbs
  • (Linux) /home/[USER_NAME]/.local/share/Allegorithmic/Substance Designer/databases/thumbs

Please note triggering a rebuild of Library thumbnails from the Preferences window is a good first step to troubleshoot thumbnails issues in general. Please try this if you experience such issues.

Thank you for your patience, and have fun with the Substance tools!

Hello everyone,

Following a fix in the way the paths of graphs in SBSAR instance nodes are stored in an SBS package, you may experience Ghost instances where SBSAR instance nodes originally were.

Prior to version 10.2.2 (2020.2.2), graphs in SBSAR instance nodes had their paths moved to the root of the SBSAR package, even if they were originally placed in a folder. We fixed this so there is parity between SBS and SBSAR packages regarding the paths of the graphs they contain.

This means the paths stored in SBS packages containing the SBSAR instances are no longer valid for graphs originally contained in folders.

To fix this, simply recreate the SBSAR instance node in place of the Ghost instance, and reconnect the node accordingly. This is a one-time fix and there should be no issues after that action is taken, provided you keep working in version 10.2.2 (2020.2.2). SBSAR files do not need to be republished or altered in any way.

We understand this is an inconvenience, and appreciate your patience.

Best regards and happy holidays from the Substance Designer team!

Hello,

This is the thread for providing us with information about the apparent crash on startup of Substance Designer 2019.1.0 for users from China.

In order for us to investigate this problem, please send your log file. It is located in this folder:
  • [Windows] C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Allegorithmic\Substance Designer
  • [macOS] Library > Application Support > Allegorithmic > Substance Designer
  • [Linux] ~/.local/share/Allegorithmic/Substance Designer/databases/thumbs.sqlite
You can attach the log file to a reply in this thread.

If possible, after a crash, please send the crash report by following the instructions in the prompt that appears when starting Substance Designer again. Make sure the 'Send additional information' checkbox is checked.
Provide detailed steps you took before the crash in the text input box.

Additionally, please provide the following information:
  • Is your computer reliably connected to the internet when starting Substance Designer?
  • Is the version 7.0.0 of the Substance Engine currently selected? You can find out about the current engine by pressing the F9 key, or in the 'Tools > Switch Engine...' menu;
  • Are your graphics drivers up to date?
We thank you for your time and help!

Best regards,
Luca Giarrizzo
