I imagine it means like any software that is in Beta development, features might not be completely finished or even functioning correctly, hence the warning not to use it in production scenarios.

I've found it to be quite solid actually and I've exported dozens of 4K res images and then rendered scenes with Octane.

I have just quickly tested this from scratch. Launched Alchemist, in the create tab dragged in two SBSAR's from Substance Source, added a water layer, then saved the material. Exited the app, then re-launched and the saved material only has one composite layer.

This has to be a bug, surely. Else what is the point of being able to save materials if you cannot go back and change modify them ?

I have saved 7 materials so far - when I drag them into the create area - I get a single composite layer.

Update all does not fix this.

I have also tried to export a log file and that failed too

Bug report sent via app.

You mean the one that does not seem to work, downloaded the 'Moss Splatter' SBSAR from SS, added a base layer, added a 'splatter' layer,  dragged the file onto one of the material slots, nothing happened - action ignored, tried multiple diferent scenarios, no joy...

While we seem to have your ear, there is another question that I have, although, admittedly it bears no relevance to the Adobe buy-out...

I have noticed that the 'Gallery' has disappeared in the last few days from the Allegorithmic website... Is it gone for good or will it make a return ?

I work in the Industrial Design sector, not games and to be honest I'm not a die-hard user of either SD or SP, but I have purchased 6 or so instances of monthly 'Indie' usage - so I think It's fair that I make my voice heard.

When the news was first announced, it was shock and surprise, then these 3 questions quickly formed in my mind...

1. Will SP/SD be dumbed down in some way ?
2. Will Substance Source still be around in one form or another ?
3. Will the pricing of a 'monthly' indie license be comparable to what it is now?

It seems like you have answered these questions in previous posts, so I am quite happy and hope everyone's future with Adobe will be bright.

Keep up the good work and don't forget the little people...

Adobe have been working on a prototype UI for the new CC lineup....

I have to admit that's the way it looks like it's heading... at some point there will be 2 new flavours of SD/SP

Dimension uses an in-house raytracer (it was using Vray in its first version) and uses the MDL format for its materials, same as iray.
Substance materials either from SD or SP will render 100% identical in Dimension already.

Ah, that makes sense then, perfect bedfellows...

Surely it's not a coincidence that both SD/SP and Adobe Dimension both now use IRay

This is not a criticism or a slight, merely an observation

Yep, thought it used VRay. It just seems like a very simple 3D/compositing app... 3D for the masses... Yuk.

By the way, it's the first time that I hear about "Adobe Dimension"
What kind of render it is?
- It's a biased or an unbiased one? BPR?
- It's utalizeing CPU or GPU
- Just CUDA if GPU or OpenCL as well?
- Pathtraceing, ray traceing?
- Can we render huge scenes with it?
- Can it handle sequences?

Don't quote me on this, but I believe Dimension is a biased raytracer. If I remember correctly, it uses VRay as it's render core. Despite that though, I personally regard it as 'Mickey Mouse' software, meaning it's there for non professionals to be able to create decent 3D visuals with almost zero experience.

It certainly doesn't sit very well beside SP and SD...

Also, SP and SP (I believe ) use IRay for their render previews, I can't imagine that sitting very well with Adobe considering what Dimension uses.

It will be very interesting in future months as I think Adobe will buy out Maxon (like somebody has already alluded to) in their quest for a complete end-to-end 3D solution...
