I believe it takes the current texture of the mask you are working on, and uses that as the source for warping. So for example, if you have a fill layer with Grunge Map X, and you apply warping with "previous input" enabled, it will use Grunge Map X as the source. This applies to complicated masks as well (using AO, curvature, textures, painted layers and any combination of these) as well, so you can get some really cool effects. This goes for Slope Blur as well
