What version do you currently have installed and what version are you trying to update to?

I have version 10.2.1 of Designer, trying to update to 10.2.2

It shows as a trial version only on the Substance Launcher

@DanCaldwell3D If you pay the $49 fee to convert your sub into a perpetual, you will get the latest version available at the time of conversion (now). Typically you'll also be entitled to any bugfix release coming out before the next large feature release, even if they come out after the conversion date. and yes! the perpetual versions are compatible with the launcher.

Hey guys, I have a question: Substance Launcher is telling me that I cannot upgrade Designer to the next point release, which seems contrary to what I was told above by Jeremie - is this right? Just want to make sure I'm not unduly missing out on bugfixes.

Cheers

Hey guys,

I have a few questions about the perpetual licence upgrade, just want to be crystal clear:

- if I pay for perpetual licenses, will they be for the current versions of Painter/Designer (ie. not a version from say 6 months/1 year ago)?
- if I pay now, and a new version comes out between now and 1/11/2020, do I get that automatically?
- do the perpetual versions still work with the Substance Launcher (I quite like it!)

I would love to stay on as a subscription member (I have been for 3 years now) but sadly Covid-19 has seen my work dry up :(

Thanks

Substance PainterSubstance Painter - UV Tiles - Congratulations guys!

Hey team,

No problems here, I just wanted to drop you a line to say congrats on the release!

I finally got around to trying it out, and I was delighted to see it handled an asset with 10 UDIMs, over 50,000 (messy) UV tiles and painting with all material channels was buttery smooth at 1k per tile. I'm completely blown away!

Well done!

Hi guys!

I'm having a recurring issue where I can't set up an unassisted install of software updates via the Substance Launcher.

What happens is the update downloads successfully, but if I'm not around to accept the UAC window before installing it eventually times out - meaning I have to start over from scratch which sadly includes having to re-download the installer.

At over 1gb a pop for both Painter and Alchemist it gets time consuming, especially if you've missed the UAC window a few times in a row! (Not to mention costly if you're on a data cap)

Proposed solutions:
- Launcher checks if the installer in question has already been downloaded, and just installs from there instead of re-downloading
- Launcher requests UAC permission up front so that the download and install go on without a hitch (don't know if that's possible)
- Launcher makes installation an optional two-step process, download then install (also separating the automation of downloading and installing, so you have a choice)
- Launcher itself asks for UAC privilege so it can install updates without permission (not really preferable for security reasons, but an option nonetheless)

Given the potential trickiness of UAC, I'd say the first solution is probably the simplest to implement.

If this already exists and I'm simply not aware of it, please let me know. Otherwise I'd love to know your thoughts - it's a pain for me as a freelancer, I can only imagine how it must be for a studio with multiple PCs to deploy to.

Cheers,
Dan

Hi guys,

Is there a way to view thumbnail previews of .sbs/.sbsar files in Windows Explorer? if not, will you be developing a shell extension which does that? Would be suuuuper handy :)

Hi there, I've been playing around with the new Alchemist release and having an awesome time!

I noticed there's a way to import an image as a layer mask, just wondering if there's a way to use procedurals for masking (ie. noise or grunge) or paint out a map within Alchemist. If not, is this planned for a future release?

Cheers,
Dan

I won't go into the disappointment I feel with this merger, 42 pages of comments have summed it all up pretty nicely. I just hope that you stand against the trend of Adobe, Autodesk and Foundry buying software and gutting it for tech or eliminating it from the market.

What I would like to confirm is when will the merger take effect in a practical sense ie. when should I convert my subscription to a perpetual licence? The evasiveness of answers to questions surrounding the continuation of perpetual licences doesn't fill me with hope that it will continue.. At the very least can you please give us a heads up so that those who do not want to keep going with subscription based licensing can have the choice?

Thanks Vincent! I'll take a look  ;D

In 3ds Max, the Slate material editor has a handy dandy feature where it lays out your graph nice and neat at the click of a button. Does the current version of SD have this kind of feature? Moving nodes around can be a real flow killer sometimes.
