Hi, I wanted to post this to advise of, what I thought was weird behaviour.
Due to the issues of Substance Painter crashing on Win10 I wanted to download the latest version of SP.
I was going to download this at my home, but it's a big file and I don't have fast wireless access here, so I thought when I was in town I'd use my phone that has 4G+ access and plenty of data allocation.
Well, I logged into my account, went to downloads saw the SP license etc, but for the life of me I could not get the download icon to click to start the download. I tried getting the device to load a "desktop" page, load the website into a full browser. Whatever I tried it did not work. Every time it defaulted back to the mobile version of the website and this would not allow access to the download button. They were not displayed.
There seemed no way to click anything that would allow access to the download function that I know works with the desktop site version.

So, simply (unless there is still some gross user error) there is a problem, or perhaps deliberate block on accessing the downloading of SP or other software from my account on a mobile device.
Now, it may be deliberate, but I rely on having access through mobile devices to my account and associated programs... eg. I often download Modo updates and content from my account (The Foundry) with the phone or Surface-pro as I can get really fast downloads through the 4G network.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, just piggy backed this on here as it relates to the video you posted Wes.
Is there sound on it?. I couldn't get anything when watching.
In the vid, when you change the displacement from 0.02 to 0.2 what units are they.. I'm guessing feet/inches?
I haven't been able to replicate the amount of displacement seen in the vid.. (yeah my images may be different, but I don't get even close..) I work in millimetres.. so my Modo material default is 20 mm for displacement.

Hi, sounds a bit weird re that sbsar field "white" out, but hopefully some of this may help.
Firstly. this is on a Windows PC, not mac and there will be some differences.
I'm using Win10pro with Modo 901 sp1 and I use B2M version 3.
Check that you have the latest Substance for Modo kit.. afaik it should be something like 2.1.0 build 146 or so...
Boot up modo and look under Help/kit version... I'm pretty sure there is an 801 and a 901 version, you must be using the correct Substance version for the Modo install.
This is where my setup may be different.. I purchased B2M 3 full standalone version, I don't use the B2M indie. (But I believe now it's the same.. and I'm going to talk about B2M3 full only)
B2M 3 standalone/indie needs to be installed.. (You need the Bitmap2Material_3.sbsar)
Once installed, there will be a subdirectory (again, Win pc, no idea of the directory structure of a Mac.)
called Allegorithmic\Bitmap2Material\3\Data, in there are the .sbsar files you need. If you have not installed a standalone, or indie version of B2M3, they won't exist and afaik B2M3 will not work.
(there is/was a trial version of B2M that was shipping with Modo, but I don't think this works, or did not have the full functionality to work with an external DCC program, or it may have been just for B2M2 whatever....)
What I do is, using a simple sphere example,
create a sphere, make a material eg "ball mat"
goto the ball mat material (ensure it is highlighted, shader tree) and use texture menu to create a substance.
goto and click the substance in the shader tree, under your previously made "ball mat" , there,  you should be able to load the b2m3 sbsar.
(If this is where your field is greyed/white out then afaik the substance kit is not installed properly.)
Navigate to where the .sbsar files are and load Bitmap2Material_3.sbsar.
With this loaded you then should have all the tweaks that are enabled available in Modo for selection/edit.
There are a few tricks to getting it working with Modo eg setting the outputs etc, but for now, if it's installed correctly you should see a heap of parameters for selection in Modo's item properties panel.

As to crashing, is that Modo, or just that you can't load an .sbsar?  I can do all the above and get a good image map texture through Substance for Modo from a single image input with no crash atm.

Using the latest Substance plugin 2.0.1cb1c70f. Modo 901 (and really 801 sp4 as well) I cannot see where to change, if at all the file format for the textures generated by the bake to disk option. In B2M v3 standalone, there is an option to change the format, ie tga to jpg etc....
But in the plugin there is no ability to do this afaik.

(Really two questions here...)
Hi, I was trying to find the cost for me to upgrade from Substance Indie pack to Substance Live.
As I initially understood it earlier it seemed that if you owned all the indie products you are eligible to switch to Live? (There was a post I think saying to send an email??)
I have SD5 indie, SP indie, B2M2/3 pro, so I think I can "switch"... This was my original query, so if someone can help with actually how to do this that would be great and advise exactly what the costs may be.

The other thing was... when I was checking, the upgrade link that seems to say upgrade your Substance product in this case B2M3 pro to Substance Live pro, it shows the cost to do this at $899... I'm pretty sure that is an error??
Otherwise it seems that for me to change from indie to live you have to upgrade your indie products at a cost of,
SD5 indie to live - $149
SP indie to live   - $149
B2M3 pro to Substance live pro $899 --- ??
 At a cost of $1197 I don't think that is correct... as a new seat of Substance Live Pro is $990 and that would be for SD pro, SP pro and B2M pro..

Any help appreciated..

I sent a bug report in for an issue with using the GPU engine in the plugin under Modo to bake texture maps to disk. Not sure something may have gone wrong.. I seemed to have sent the report without all the fields being filled out. If you haven't seen a report regards GPU engine baking textures out to 1x1 pixel sizes pls let me know.

Hi, I'm still getting some weird stuff happening with the plugin in Modo 801 sp3.
Atm, I'm not using the latest build, but afaik it would be virtually the previous level.. (Not at the workstation so can't download, or validate what ver it is.)

If I just click on the first set of outputs in the substance properties, some of the generated maps are not correct, or blank. I have to invoke the "hidden" outputs, that is the ones after grunge etc... for me I click on the double chevrons end of plugin popout, collapse some of the AO, Grunge menus and at the end there are outputs - diffuse, bump, normal etc.. Click on the ones I want and ALSO click the corresponding outputs on the upper menu set. With that set it will generate maps, without, some are flat grey, or "blank"...
There seems to be an issue with the diffuse map also. What I did was to use B2M3 pro to generate the maps for a given image, ok all good and setup a material in modo to effect the surface of a cube. Ok seems correct.. (given correcting for OGL vs DirectX normals etc).
 Made a second cube and used the Substance plugin to do the same, well, the diffuse map is blurry and dark and some of the maps are non existent.. (Unless I do as above, tag the second set of outputs.)
There is also no ability to access the Image Still field form the plugin properties. (discussed before) but I set that in output gamma fields, 0 to 1 etc.

I'll make an image to show the problem I'm having, but just wanted to post, whilst the issues were still on my mind..

Hi, I pre-ordered Substance Designer 5 indie upgrade and there is no reference to the product in my account.
In the billing section there is the order etc, but nothing in the downloads section.

I see by other posts that there may be a heap of emails to go through, but I just wanted to advise here, (I guess, to get in the queue) as in my case there was an issue with the website when I ordered the upgrade... it reported an error to say that it could not issue a download key, or license... can't remember which now.

Hi, I have the Indie Pack as well and want to do the early update.
You need to login to your account and click on "buy" in the upper right corner of the website.
When you scroll down to the "Substance Designer" section notice a  small green "click here" link above the orange sentence. This will link you to the discount prices.

Heh, for the life of me I could not see that link..
One other thing to add for clarification..

I have just now ordered that upgrade, and have the order no, but the website gave a error message.. "couldn't generate a license for this order... .. contact the website administrator", or words to that intent.
I'm guessing that this is ok, as it is a pre-order, so no actual product exists at the moment, but can someone from Allegorithmic confirm that this is correct and ok?

Hi, I have SD4 via the Indie pack and was wanting to update it to (preorder) SD5.
I've seen that there is a substantial discount for the preorder. $49.
I cannot see this come up when I put the order into my cart.
I've put an order in for what I think is the update (it shows it as Substance Designer 5 Indie) and the cost in the cart is $99. I didn't want to fully process the order until I get clarification of the process.

Hi tgraupmann,
from memory, I think that the vid, was made for substances in Modo 701, maybe early 801 (?), so there are differences in the shown workflow. Certainly modo 801 caused a few issues with the plugin in the early stages. Using the latest beta plugin build 132 with 801 sp3, should have that selection as "create substance (ctrl alt s). Odd titles/fields here to me would indicate you have an earlier version of the plugin running in modo.
Anyway, the other thing that may be different (and did cause me a few headaches initially..) is the workflow is a bit different nowadays. That is afaik, you need to have a material tagged and selected for the polys you want to texture in modo and then invoke the "create substance" function from the texture dropdown. Otherwise it puts the substance above the base shader and hence won't display until you move it.
The other thing that also may not be obvious is that once you apply the substance, you need to load a substance and then goto substance props and select the outputs you want.. ie click on diffuse, bump, normal etc..
I've attached a pic, hopefully it makes sense.
I'm definitely not expert on substances and there may be a better way to do this, and/or automate some of the steps, but crudely this is what I do.

Not sure if this is due to the new system, or just my infamiliarity with SD.
I've updated SD (indie) and the last few times, it has required me to download a new license key after installing the latest update. I guess I just expected that given it's an update it would just use my original key.
If this is normal, that's no problem, I can easily get the key from my account and after inputting the key SD works fine, just really wanting confirmation that this is normal behaviour.
