Hi Nicolas,

Just for information, I haven't receive email from allegorithmic today.
The last message received from Allegorithmic was the newsletter March 8.

Probably a mess up with dates. With they big GDC starting tomorrow I would not expect anything until then.

I did notice they have some painter 2 videos, still blacked as private, on their YouTube channel.

They are extending you till Nov with only 3 months left? So if you still have Apr-May-June to pay you will also need to pay July-Aug-Sept-Oct-Nov which adds about 100 to your cost. Which could mean a few things

1. V2 will cost 150 but as an existing customer you get 50 off
2. V2 may be higher than the 150 and you are getting a bigger discount
3. There may be some extra payment for the pay as you go option. I know when you start live it is either 300 upfront or 320 with payments. Maybe the way it works out you are paying a bit more

I would suggest waiting until Wednesday and seeing what they announce. Depending on which of the above is true you may be better off paying off your current version and upgrading later. I like Allegorithmic and the substance tools but have no idea why they would announce a new piece of software only a week out and provide no info on cost or even improvements/new features

Look at the bright side, you are getting info while some people are still waiting for any news. Then there are others who seem to have issues with their live accounts. No doubt it will all be fixed on Wednesday

SubstanceSubstance - Purchases & Licenses - Live account issues
 on: March 14, 2016, 09:54:55 pm
Just noticed my live subscription is no longer showing up on my account page. I just upgraded to live a month ago with the single payment options

  A few strange things
1. On my order page it says I bought live in Oct 2015. If I download the PDF invoice it does show the correct date of Feb 2016

2. Not sure if it is related but if I go to substance share no live drops show up

3. All my software shows up in may downloads page, with the correct Feb 2016 purchase date

Everything seems to be working, so there is no rush. I see there are a few people having this same issue

SubstanceSubstance - Purchases & Licenses - Re: When to upgrade

That's cool

If I am not mistaken isn't live 2015 the original offering of live? Which would make this the first time it was upgraded; no doubt they do not have all the answers yet.

Only asked now because I have a habit of waiting till the last min. I still remember missing the big live sale on steam back in 2014

SubstanceSubstance - Purchases & Licenses - When to upgrade
 on: March 08, 2016, 09:39:51 pm
I just seen that painter 2 was coming next week. If I understand the past announcements correctly then sometime this year Designer 6 should also come out.

I know you guys normally give some sort of discount to owners of the current version if they upgrade within a set time frame. Are you only doing this for individual tools or will it also be an option for upgrading live as well? For example: Will I need to upgrade Painter this month and Designer later this year (to get the discounts) or will you guys offer some sort of live upgrade where people can simply upgrade their live 2015 pack to 2016.

SubstanceSubstance - Purchases & Licenses - Re: WTF paypal?

I think I see the problem here

What the store page says:

The store page does hint that you can pay the monthly fee with PayPal. I almost triad this a few days ago when I ordered but simply paid it all up front

PayPal and credit cards:
Do you have the funds in your PayPal account to cover the total cost?

There are two ways to have a paypal account
           1. Have it linked to your bank account
           2. Have a debit/credit card set up with the account
The big difference between the two is if you try to buy something using PayPal (outside of Ebay since they work with paypal) and you do not have all the money in your account.

For example say you have only 50 bucks in PayPal and want to buy live for 300:
PayPal accounts with Debit/Credit cards: PayPal simply charges the card, if the bank approves it then they front he money to the user

Paypal accounts with only a bank  account: PayPal will use an electronic check to pay the merchant, problem is many merchants will not accept these checks.  Since unlike the debit card they have to wait to see their money

I went ahead and upgraded to live. Looking at past examples it is not like you guys milk the upgrade cost

Thanks for the reply, been looking at your past upgrade cost and they seem pretty reasonable.
I understand why you would charge more to upgrade from SP1 to SP3 than you would with SP1 to SP2

Let me ask you one goofy questions

If you buy substance live you pretty much get B2M for free. If you are already a live member and upgrade your entire live (all the tools) do you have to pay to upgrade B2M or is that done free as well

Let me give you a better example

I have Painter v1 at the moment

Say I enter the payment model now, suppose 6 months from now you guys release the newer versions of the tools thus starting Live 2016. If I understand correctly what you will do is give people like me two options
   1. Just finish of my current payment plan and satay with live 2015
   2. Add a few more months to my payment plan and upgrade to live 2016

Let us say I do not start the monthly plan before 2016 launches. Will it be possible to still enter the 2015 plan or will that route be closed for owners of the old tools? Why would someone consider this ask? Well I am pretty happy with Painter v1 at the moment and while I am sure v2 will be better; until seeing the upgrade cost it is impossible to know if I will need the new features.  So I am looking at what my options are. Should I just pay 150 and upgrade to live now and wait and see what 2016 tools are like, or enter the payment plan and decide if upgrading is right at a later date.

So depending on how you guys handle the current software version:
  a. As soon as 2016 launches those who are not paying for 2015 no longer have that option
  b. 2015 live upgrade will still be available for a short time after 2016

Will help me decide if I should buy now or wait

I see on the forums that substance live will now be a yearly thing, which when change when the new application upgrades are released. Right now we are in live 2015 and sometime this year live 2016 will start.

Now I understand that if you are currently under the pay to own model that when 2016 goes live you can either upgrade to it or simply continue with 2015. My question is will it still be possible for new users, who own one of the older software versions (painter 1 Designer 5) to still upgrade to live 2015 once 2016 goes live hits or will that path only be open to people currently in the program?

I am thinking about including SD in my workflow.

The thing is I have an AMD R9 390 which clearly has no cuda cores.

I was wondering if I buy a NVidia card and place it as a second card in my system will SD allow me to use the cuda cores on that card, even if my monitor is hooked up to my AMD card?

On other question.

I know I can use my CPU for rendering i Ray. I currently have an i7 5820 (6 core). DO you think that will be powerful enough that I may not need to worry about cuda cores

My bad I miss understood what you said. You know steam has a refund policy as long as it has been under 2 weeks and 2 hours of use.

You should be able to get your money back from steam

Wait, your customer service team is telling me that I can subtract nothing from my live account if I've bought the full steam version of painter! That's not what I understood from my conversation before buying the steam version. I hope that there is a solution to this since I was quite clear with you and you CS prior to buy the product again!

I just bought on steam and see the discount price for live. Just to make sure did you
  1. Link your steam account to your allegorithmic account?
  2. (not sure if this is needed) go to your allegorithmic account page and say retrieve licenses

So we can buy painter on sale from steam, link our steam account with our Allegorithmic account and buy (upgrade) to live for 150?

In other words we can get live for 225
