alright I ran
and got this:

// X:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2019/modules;M:/LIBRARIES/Documents/maya/2019/modules;M:/LIBRARIES/Documents/maya/modules;X:/Program Files/Common Files/Autodesk Shared/Modules/maya/2019 //

I got the 2.1.1 installer and edited the .mod file as such:
"+ PLATFORM:win64 substance2 2.1.1 X:\Program Files\Allegorithmic\Substance in Maya\2019

+ PLATFORM:linux substance2 2.1.1 /opt/Allegorithmic/Substance_in_Maya/2019

+ PLATFORM:mac substance2 2.1.1 /Applications/Substance in Maya/2019"

I thereafter copied that modified .mod to 3 locations:
X:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2019
X:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Modules\Maya\2019
X:\Program Files\Allegorithmic\Substance in Maya\2019

This was probably overkill and not sure which one ultimately did it,
but it is now working!

Big challenge. Hopefully in future, installers will include manually specifying installation directory. I wasn't able to do this with any overrides and wasn't sure how to edit the .exe file

So I've read through this and tried all steps:

the substance installer.exe automatically installs to my X drive since that is my main drive

Now I've tried editing the .mod file located here:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Modules\Maya\2019

And have saved over the .mod file to look like this:
+ PLATFORM:win64 substance 1.4.1-7b007d3 X:\Allegorithmic\SubstanceMaya\2019
PATH +:= bin

This did not work
I've edited my default install directory to the C drive and tried multiple ways including command line for this .exe installer to install to the C directory and none of this works. It always installs to the X drive and editing the .mod file doesnt help

I've tried manually loading the substance.mll plugin in maya. this also doesnt work

I'm at my wits end

Please help


I would like to edit certain attributes in the default substance materials

example (increase max quantity of bricks on the default bricks_001.sbsar)
and am unable to do so
It is completely locked in substance designer

A majority, to nearly all, of the default and purchased materials are .sbsar and this is a huge disservice

Right but it is not a material

It is a procedural texture from the shelf

I would like the same, edited procedural texture to be put into each map
My current work around is recreating the procedural texture and re-entering the changed parameters into each map
i.e. manually typing a changed parameter like "Brick offset: 0.5" into the metallic properties, roughness properties, height, normal, etc

It seems like the only options are:
1. Remaking the procedural texture for each map
2. Exporting the procedural texture as a map, reimporting the map, and then plugging it into your other channels (mettalic, roughness, height) which makes the texture uneditable by this point
3. Making it in substance designer
4. Or buying materials

Are these the only options? Seems like a pretty in demand feature to want 1 procedural to drive all your maps


When I create a fill layer and connect a Texture to any map (Diffuse, Normal, Height, etc) that specific texture is incapable of being connected to other maps

This is frustrating seeing that something like an edited brick texture that I have change the parameters for, should drive all my other maps

I have tried creating a material from the texture and plugging it in that way but it does not work

Please help
