Importing/applying my half done diffuse map

Hi, please forgive me if this has already been asked..
I have a model and half finished diffuse map.
I've imported the map, how would I go about having it on a layer?

As far as I know, you can add it by pressing the "B" button under layers.

This creates a "Fill Layer" where you can either set up a uniform color or drag in a texture.
