I know, but it works only for fill-layers. It would be great if it also works for paint layers and masks.

that I'd made my own filter to do this.

But really there ought to be one built in, that can also handle groups.  To me, Smart Materials (particularly those kindly donated by other folks) aren't much use unless they can be resized etc. because they tend not to fit the model and have too many layers to reasonably edit.

I'm seeking this in 1.x also. Is it now available in 2.x?

By default it's not feasible, but we can imagine making a filter to achieve this.
