Author Topic: Normal Maps - Lines?  (Read 3090 times)

Not really sure how else to title this, but one thing I've noticed when exporting my maps from Painter is that it also produces all these odd lines around the details that I make~  Please see the snapshot for an example.

What is causing this and is there any way to stop it?  Thanks!

Hey Kagemao,

it looks like padding. Padding is added to all textures during export from Substance Painter to make sure mip-mapping and other compressions won't decrease quality.
You should leave it as it is when used in production, but if you'd like to present it as a portfolio, for instance, you can remove it with a Substance or manually in an image editing software like Photoshop.

I created a Substance you can use to remove the padding easily with an ID map. It's available on Substance Share.

Thanks again, Fabian :)  Could be that by the look of your filter.  Will give it a go later and see how it works~ at the moment I am just photoshopping to combine my normals.

Before wanting to get rid of them, I suggest taking a look at this page to at least understand why painter do this :
Don't forget your log file. It can be exported from the Help menu of the software.
