Author Topic: Can i make backups of my materials?  (Read 1567 times)

Is there a way to make backups of the materials I have made inside of painter? I can´t really find them anywhere outside of Painter? And I assume that the materials and stuff that I import doesn´t get deleted or anything if I update Painter?

You can save your layers as Smart Materials if you want to use or save them outside of a project.

Don't forget your log file. It can be exported from the Help menu of the software.

But they are not smart materials, just regular ones.

If you imported them in the project rather than placing them into your shelf, then the only way to "get them back" is by creating a smart material. You can't extract a substance otherwise.

I rightclicked and picked "Create material preset" which put it in the Material section. They are in the shelf even if I start a new project, but I was wondering if I could make backups of them if something went wrong.

The assets you saved in our shelf are located here: C:\Users\...\Documents\Substance Painter\shelf
