Author Topic: Weird, sharp lines when baking normal and curvature map?  (Read 2616 times)

So I decided to get the trial version again, and watched the "material layering" tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVXroe8e88s). But when I bake the normal by baking the high poly mesh to the low poly one, I get weird lines. As seen as on the image to the left (http://prntscr.com/gcqe8s). And yes, those lines are on the edges of the geometry.

And another problem I have, is the curvature map bakes literally every edge to be worn out. As seen as on the picture to the right. Is my high poly mesh not high poly enough? And also, is there a way to lower the streinght of the curvature map? as in so it doesn't detect the small edges that arent suppose to be sharp and bakes them as curves. You can see it as the thin worn out edges that make it look like it's old cardboard.

Quick question, why do I need to send a log file to solve a normal map baking problem? Can I just send the substance designer file?

I think I can help answer the "log file" question.

a) An amazing number of issues are caused by specific - usually below-spec - graphics cards, or other things that are reported in the log file.  When running it on another machine the same Painter file might work fine, which won't help you.

b) Many people have issues sharing their Painter files because they don't have permission to expose proprietary work.  Sometimes, though, they can send it confidentially to an Allegorithmic staff member, rather than posting it publicly on the forum.  So the default is to ask for the log file first.

If it's okay with you, attach BOTH files to your next reply, using the "Attachments and other options" link below where you type your post's text.  I doesn't look like a clickable thing, but just click there to expose the file attachment options.

Good luck.

- ATTACH files and pictures to posts: https://forum.allegorithmic.com/index.php/topic,23670.0.html

I don't know why my replies aren't showing when adding an attatchment or if it's that they're not showing up for me, but I guess I'll just link to the file uploaded to dropbox. https://www.dropbox.com/s/33cv5v6edb1m08e/prj.rar?dl=0

And also I don't think it's that my system specs are lackluster (8 core 4.3 Ghz, 16 GB 1833 Mhz RAM, 1050Ti 4Gb), It's just that I don't know what I'm doing.
