Author Topic: Paint Skew function in maps baking  (Read 6928 times)

Do not know if it's already been asked or not, however..  :)
As a future request, would be cool to have something similar in maps baking (especially normals) that Marmoset Toolbag have.
And specifically, I mean that 'Paint Skew' function (about 1:37 on the video).
Something similar would be very useful to eliminate such normal map baking errors.
Thanks.  ;)

Hey, yes it has already been suggested, and we are looking at solutions for this ;)

this is a cool way of doing it, but it takes trial and error.
I think a better way to go about it is to implement some sort of automatic skewmesh technique, where substance would read the low poly imported when you create a new project, then duplicate that mesh(s) as a temporary meshes, apply few tessellation divisions to it, bake a world space normal map and finally convert the map to tangent space using the original low poly imported when you first create the project. at the end of the process, the temp skewmesh would get discarded.  this works really well and combined with the mesh by name feature you'd get the cleanest bakes ever  8)

I apologize for digging up an old thread.

Any chance we could make the bake process do this automatically using the curvature map?  Perhaps with a threshold value as well.

Edit: Well, now that I think about it, the curvature map comes from the bake. hmm... perhaps there is another way to detect edges/contours...

bakers are going to be completely reworked, and skew maps will be part of it. No ETA, but it's still in the schedule.

Great to hear, looking forward to it!
Thanks for the quick response.

This video shows that you can do manual skew correction.  However, it appears to be an older version of Substance Painter.  Does this feature exist in Substance Painter 2019?  I've searched Google & the documentation and haven't found anything.

These are videos of Substance Designer

One year later. 2020.1 Realeased. Marmoset is still the way to go.
How is this not a priority?

Bump, please add it into painter, skew and offset paint with partial baking are the current 2 features where Marmoset totaly wins over. And now when Marmoset 4 adds painting it's getting closer to being an industry standart

Skew and Cage offset. 2 major functions of Marmoset Toolbag. They make baking A LOT easier. I am actually wondering why this isn't already implemented considering how fast cloth brush of Blender was copied. + this thread is now nearly 4 years old :(
