Author Topic: SP 2020.2.2 (6.2.2) crashes when baking normals  (Read 602 times)

Hi folks,

I've been trying to bake high->low and SP crashes at the normal map bake. High poly model is 18 million faces and low poly - 40k faces. I have turned off Live Preview and GPU Raytracing. I can bake a reduced high poly count (10 million faces) just fine, but I don't get the detail I want.

Can anyone help me out understand what the issue could be?

Try to decimate your high poly then, also make sure you use BINARY and not ASCII for the FBX.
I teach people how to use Substance Painter. :)

Thank you for the suggestion. Decimation of high poly helped, but since I'm using Blender, the process took a VERY long time. What also helped was to export both high poly and low poly as .obj instead of .fbx.
