It seems to have there isn't OpenGL Rendering engine..
But, then how does SD works on OSX?

There is an OpenGL engine, but only in the Mac version. On windows, the Directx engine is much more stable and performs very well.

One more question, does SSE2 means compute everything on CPU?

Yes, SSE2 uses only the CPU to calculate the generation. A high end CPU will calculate at least as fast as a high end GPU for lower resolutions up to 1024. 2048 and upper will be faster using the GPU.
