Author Topic: What is the purpose of the "Base Material" node?  (Read 678 times)

Hi, I've seen a few tutorials that make use of this node, and I can't quite understand what purpose it serves? How does its use differ from just creating the various output nodes in your graph and wiring up nodes directly to them and previewing them on the physically_metallic_roughness material?

What are some use cases it unlocks that would otherwise not be possible, or become more challenging without it?

For the record, the tutorial I first saw it used in is this beginner tutorial.

He starts the tutorial off by using one of these nodes, and I can't seem to understand why?
