Author Topic: Mesh import limitations  (Read 112 times)

I have been working on a small project and completed my first asset in substance painter. After having shown it to a few people, they made some suggestions for fixing some minor issues requiring minor topology changes.

I made the changes in Maya, and layed out a few new UV shells and reposed the asset (its a gun, I just opened the chamber on it).

I replaced the mesh in SP and the result was not great. Any component of the mesh that moved or was altered lost almost all layer info. The only thing that was really preserved for the most part was brush strokes on parts of the mesh that did not move.

I'm sure I did many things that SP just cant do, but I'd like to know what is and isnt safe to do in the future.

1. Can I import a mesh that has been re-posed as I did, as long as no other topology changes and no UV changes are made?

2. Can I re-topologize as long as no new UV shells are created?

Anything else I need to keep in mind with changes of this nature?
