Author Topic: Pressure Sensitivity requies "Windows Ink" - Please change that!  (Read 2619 times)

anyone got rid of that white circle by following the instructions here?
https://docs.substance3d.com/spdoc/configuring-pens-and-tablets-188974256.html

EDIT:
-wacom cintiq qhd 27" first model
-latest SP version
-latest Nvidia drivers
-latest wacom drivers 6.3.38-2
-windows Ink activated

= lags when clicking into sliders and dragging them + white circle on right click

please!..why?
This workaround does nothing. And kills OS interaction.
Controls remain choppy and pressure become jumpy
Same problem on different devices(wacom, huion, xp pen)
Only windows 7 users works well cause they dont have windows ink

Can't believe windows ink must be activated. I think about moving back to the previous version...
Allegorithmic: Please remove windows ink dependence asap!

I've found a temporary solution. See my post below...

For everyone who needs a workaround until the windows ink will be hopefully removed:

1. Go to the wacom settings and create a custom application setup for substance painter.
2. Acticate the windows ink functionalily just for substance painter in the projection area.
3. To deactivate the windows ink animation and cursor see the attached image.

Works for me for now.

Does that solve the sticky slider issue?
This is by far the worst thing that windows ink breaks, due to the workflow i use and keep changing colors and radom brush settings all time it makes it almost impossible to work with.

Overall i dont understand why this change was made. Anybody who uses zbrush or photoshop knows windows ink compatibility issues like the back of his hand, its been a problem since first win10 version and it was never solved.
For now i rolled back and will stay on older version, sadly i didnt know new substance versions are not backwards compatible so i lost a bit of my work.

For everybody still having issues, I reiterate :
  • Post your tablet model and driver version
  • Post a detailed description of your issue
Without that we won't be able to look into the issue reported. We need more information.

Also, you can try the Registry setting provided by Microsoft in this reddit message to see if it helps : https://www.reddit.com/r/Windowsink/comments/8508fi/controlling_pen_behavior_in_windows_10/

1st thing, i still have that white circle on my Cintiq 27qhd drivers: 6.3.31-4 . And no i dont want to upgrade to 6.3.38-2 as we all know that there is one thing Wacom ALWAYS screws up. Its the freakin drivers!
For the circle, you followed all the steps described in the documentation right ?
For the drivers, we have recommended versions that we tested internally, see: https://docs.substance3d.com/spdoc/technical-requirements-172824034.html
For updating your drivers or not : that's your decision, but we can't provide support for older drivers. We work with Wacom to test their Beta drivers and try to fix bugs or send them back feedback on them. So there is no point in keeping old drivers that don't work.

edit: just testet in Photoshop, affinity and zbrush, all have pressure sensitivity and no white circle, Subtance painter is the only one that sports that.
It's likely because all these applications fallback on Wintab (the old Windows API) which we don't support anymore.

---

Please add option to not use Windows ink. We may look like minoruty of users but were just the part of them that spoke up.
We are considering adding support for Wintab, but that may require some time.

---

Only issue that remains is a 30 pixel dead zone on sliders before that snap to the cursor position, though I  have that issue in photoshop and blender. I assume that's more on windows side and probably considered a "feature".
On our side we experienced the "sticky" sliders as well, but they were related to specific settings which I covered in the documentation page.

Thanks for the reply

@ Froyok, I followed the steps as far as i can. As i said iam on windows 10 pro and i dont have all the settings that are mentiones in that doc.

Iam on a Cintiq 27QHD DTH DTH2700 ,https://cdn.wacom.com/f/ipi/0x032a/IPI-DE.pdf
Drivers 6.3.38-2 - so slightly newer then the ones you test with.
And i cant see how I can get all those Handwriting settings -

I dont have this radio button on windows 10pro

regarding the substance doc, it should be enabled https://docs.substance3d.com/spdoc/configuring-pens-and-tablets-188974256.html

So I got it working for the most part, but I get the white circles on right clicks and I get a text box that shows every key I hit. So every time I hold alt a little text box appears next to my cursor to show me that I'm holding alt....That's more annoying than the circle.  I'm using an Intuos Pro M with Driver 6.3.38-2

Unfortunately this little "square" box (or tooltip) telling which key is pressed is coming from Windows itself and cannot be controlled. Microsoft didn't expose a setting for it as far I'm aware. I'm still looking for a way to see if that can be configured somehow (via a registry key for example).

Ok, so having followed the instructions posted above, I reinstalled painter 2019.3.1 - the snapping sliders have improved a lot but there is still a bit of sticking at the beginning of the slide before it smooths out. I am using a Wacom Intuos5 Touch, drivers up to date (6.3.38-2). On Windows 10 Enterprise.

To avoid confusion and make things easier to track for us I'm locking this topic and now suggest to post any remaining issues in this thread : https://forum.substance3d.com/index.php/topic,32232.0.html
