How to enforce edge-select-node to work?
It doesn't work


I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to achieve..If you expect the edge detect to highlight the cube edges, this is not going to happen..
The nodes in the graph process 2d textures in the same manner as any 2d image editor. The Substance graph is NOT a shader editor.

If you want to generate an image that represents the mesh edges, you'll have to bake this map using the built in bakers. Looking for some tutorials might help.
