Author Topic: VRay Next - New recommended workflow with METALNESS?  (Read 7139 times)

Hi,
I wonder since VrayNext introduced already a metalness input to support allegorithmic's PBR-metallic-roughness shaders, if there isn't now any new workflow tutorial?
All documentations (MAYA-VRay) still show the old workflow with texture output for Specular-Glossiness workflow!

Thanks for help, I'm no expert, I'm just an artist looking for the best and easiest solutions...

Wouldn't it be like any other Metal Roughness work flow? Start your project as PBR Metal Rough, and start painting. Export as PBR Metal Rough and plug the maps in the correct nodes.
I teach people how to use Substance Painter. :)

im not 100% sure it would be great to have a guide to make sure we are doing it correct.

I work in PBR Metal Rough all the time... If the shader supports those inputs then you just plug in the maps... This holds true across all PBR Shaders supporting Metal Rough with their render. There might be minor tweaks but without seeing the shader who knows. :D

EDIT: I looked online and Youtube, lots of guides. ;)

Sure i see lots of guides to, but not for vray next with its new metalic switch. Can you share one of the many you found?

There are guides all over the place, as these are first page google searches.

Yeah, these three would be great to consider. Thanks for sharing.
Hello all, I am an upcoming substance painter looking to learn how key workflows and techniques are done using Substance Painter. Baking maps, creating projects, working with anchors and layer instances and so forth.

Here is a little video I created in Max. The workflow is the same, its just changing the maps from non-linear to linear you'll need to google. Good luck! https://youtu.be/ZQy294k_ftk
