Cant import smart materials from substance share

I cant seem to import most of the smart materials into paianter that I get from substance share.   It shows an error "An error occurred opening this resource. It cannot be imported", and then doesnt import.

I'm using Painter 2019.1.3

How do you import the resource ? What are your import settings ?

I've tried importing by drag and drop from file explorer, using file-> import resources, and putting the file manually in the shelf folder.   I dont see any options for changing any actual settings for import... This is the import dialogue:

It looks like the resource is identical to mine. So it doesn't seem corrupted.
Did you try moving the file in another folder/disk and importing it again ?
Is Substance Painter running in administrator mode ?

Just tried running as administrator, could no longer drag/drop into the shelf from file explorer.

Tried copying and moving the file around, no change.  On my computer, the file has no date modified, not sure if thats impacting it?

I've tried upgrading to
Substance Painter, version 2019.2.0
Build 3242 - 7c01df656b0c7602185fd275de419c6c6347bf49

Ran as administrator, import resource (no project open),  once the material is in the dialogue it shows "an error occurred opening this resource, it cannot be imported"  error again

Alright, thanks for trying. Could you give a try at one last test ?
Could you go into the installation folder of Substance Painter, copy one of the default Smart Material present into another folder and try to import it using the same procedure as you did ?

I would like to know if the issue is with any resources or only one you created (downloaded).

Ok I copied Wood_Walnut to another folder and was able to import it fine.

There have been a few files from substance share that I've been able to import, but its probably about a 25% success rate.  In fact, I think I just imported one that failed last time I tried it. Wood_Medieval.

Alright, we are progressing then !
I think the issue here is somehow related to security/access rights on the file. Files installed by our installers seems to be working fine with the application because the system created them. However file you downloaded don't likely because there were created under your account. At least that's what I suspect.

Can you try the following ?
- Right-click on one assets that doesn't import fine, choose "properties"
- Click on the "Security" tab
- Click on your user account in the "group or user names" list

Can you then tell me which permission are enabled for you account ?
Can you tell me the same for "Authenticated users" ?

Authenticated Users have Modify, Read&execute, Read, write.
My account only had Read&execute, read.

I modified the settings for my account to have Modify and write as well, and it still didnt import

Alright, then do you have an Antivirus or Anti-spyware running in the background ? It's likely to be blocking Substance Painter from accessing the file your downloaded.

I tried disabling my AVG Antivirus, same issue
