forgive me for a noob question but I'm fairly new to making my own textures (40 hours in SD  :P ).

Is there some guide on how output maps (glossiness, bump, displacement etc.) should look like and what their data means (eg. white is shiny black is rough etc.)?

thank you for the reply, that's a lot of good information.
But is it everything I need? I saw this video and saw a lot of maps that I don't know of, and tho they explained it, after watching it I got more confused than I was before.
