Editing layer stack

Does the API currently let you edit the layer stack of a texture set?
I'd like to be able to add a material(layer) to the layer stack of a specific texture set.

I've looked through the docs but wasn't able to find anything related to this.

Can we at least modify layer properties (base color, height, metallic .. values) using QML or any other script?

Based on the latest change log for 2019.1, it appears users can now query data from the layer stack, just like you said:

[Scripting] Read all stack information including used resources

Are layer stack editing capabilities close behind?
Is it even on the short-term roadmap at the moment?

It is on our to-do list, but no ETA at this point, not for the next quarter for sure.
