Author Topic: I am facing a weird porblem while generating normal map :(  (Read 1177 times)

Hello guys, I am facing a weird problem, though my low poly is perfectly named and cover the high poly object, but in substance painter i can't get any detail in front,
Also the detail from back are is also very little

Can anyone tell me please what am I doing wrong here?

It looks like your low poly object does not match your high poly object.

The low poly object must not 'cover' the high poly object, in order to get good normal map bakes, the vertices of the low poly object must be snapped to the surface of the high poly object perfectly. Each low poly vertex must be located directly on the surface of the high poly object, not below it, and not above it.

Shrink-wrap (or similar operation) the low poly object onto the high poly object.

I'm confused now.

If your high-poly mesh has bumps and valleys, your low-poly will not match those details exactly.  You can match the high-poly "closely," but it will naturally smooth out bumps and wrinkles in a cloth or haz-mat suit.

Can you clarify more what you mean, please?

Would the low-poly model Sabbir made work well as a "cage mesh?"  He's still need a different low-poly model though, right?

The lowpoly object cannot match the high poly object perfectly of course, but it should match it as closely as possible. I meant that the vertices of the lowres object should be snapped to the surface of the highpoly object (like making a surface live in Maya and drawing polygons onto the surface of another object). -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6c8oSFtl68&t=364s

He could use his current lowpoly object as a cage (after removing overlaps/ intersections), and would need an additional low poly object to bake from, yes.

Okay.  Thanks for the reply.
