Author Topic: Opacity Fill Layer Issue in Viewport  (Read 3468 times)

I'm new to substance painter so I'm following along with the get started tutorials found here.
https://tutorials.allegorithmic.com/courses/a97b433a5997fd800b5ed300d783cc41/youtube-mBn_1otOHZ8

At about 11:40 in video 01 he teaches how to create a new fill layer and change its opacity for the purpose of making glass.
In the viewport the material nicely follows the slider as he makes it more or less transparent.

However, when I attempt to use the opacity slider in the fill properties it results in my mesh either being 100% opaque or 100% transparent.

Help is appreciated :)
Just wanted to make sure I'm not dealing with a hardware issue before I continue learning!

Speaking of hardware...  what graphics card do you have?

If you suspect it is not user error, please also attach a LOG FILE (see notes in my signature).

Good luck, and WELCOME to the family.

Thank you!

I have NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1060 6GB. 16GB RAM
I've been seeing the NVIDIA warnings - my drivers were all updated yesterday and the warnings in substance went away. Not sure if its still due to that though.

Attached is a log file. I appreciate the help!

Your GPU is certainly adequate.

There have been a lot of Nvidia "driver" issues lately, and some people have had to roll their drivers *back* a version.  There is a Painter update coming very soon (today?), so that might help, too.

No visible log file.  I am not convinced the "Attach Log File" thing works right in the forum, at least not so us non-moderators can see them.  Try attaching the log file again, please.  Use the "Attachments and other options" (yes, it's clickable) below the forum text edit box when posting.

I did get the painter update today and installed it, that video is with the newest version.  :-\

My driver is v 391.35 Released on 3/27/18 - I'll poke more to see if there are similar issues here

Attaching again!

Any news? I always had this problem.

I'm also having this opacity issue - I can't blend opacity between opaque and transparent... I can go 100% opaque or 100% transparent.
But opacity map looks good and I guess this is a viewport display issue.

Make sure in the Shader Settings window you use the right shader file, it should be the named with "alpha blending" in the name.
Don't forget your log file. It can be exported from the Help menu of the software.
