Author Topic: Custom variable to control several nodes  (Read 551 times)

I have done something like this before, a long time ago, I think, but I am stuck today.  I know I've created a custom function before, but it is on another system I don't have access to at this time  Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction, maybe link to a good tutorial or share a simple example or something.

I want to have a single variable to control several nodes.

For example, suppose I have three Blend nodes, and I want to control the Opacity of all three nodes with a single value.  This value would need to be one I could EXPOSE when I publish the .sbsar so it's easily controlled in Painter.

Right now my brain is not working well, and I'm not even getting a simple "Custom variable" to work.  I started a custom function, put a "Get Float" node in there, and... gaaaahhh, like I said, my brain isn't working tonight.

I did some searching in the forum, YouTube, and the documentation, but I'm not finding the magic bit of information that gets me out of the starting block.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

SOLVED...

What lucky timing!

The main thing I was missing was to create an INPUT PARAMETER FIRST.

My "function graph" only has a single node... a "Get Float" which I also defined as an Output node.
I temporarily assumed my Get Float could not be both a "get" and an Output, but it can.  Cool.
