Author Topic: Grazing Reflectivity in Physically Based MDL Materials  (Read 1037 times)

Surfaces become more reflective at grazing angles. The default MDLs don't take this into account.
I experimented with the Physically Based MDL templates and learned how to add this effect to them.
This produces more accurate renders.

The framed nodes are optional. They remap the values to the range of 0 to 0.5.
The lerp node inverts the slider values so that 0 represents 0.5, and 1 is maximum reflectivity.
The settings for the lerp node are a=1 and b=0.

If you don't want to include the remapping nodes, set the "Grazing Reflectivity" float to 0.5.

Note: I have added this feature to the default Iray material files. They are available at Substance Share.
