Here's my work in progress for the contest. Just finished working on the pattern and will be working on the albedo and roughness. :)

Nice work! I think you got the idea, but take a look at the reference, the bottom shapes also have a diagonal placement.

Looks nice. I am fighting with this one too currently. I encountered the same problem as you have (looking at your pictures) the lines patterns they look like they going up and down intersecting a lot of layers while on yours you can sometimes see the the sharp ending of the pattern and you can tell that they are just layered one on top of each other.
I have the same problem and trying to figure out the logic that would allow me to mask them randomly to get that extra depth in the pattern.
Soooooooo hard :)
