Author Topic: Can't generate Color ID from Maya OBJ import  (Read 1505 times)

Hi,

I have a _low and a _high object in Maya and on the _high I have two colors (red and blue). I export as an OBJ and then set up the bake in SP but always get a black color id map. I believe this says that there is no material input from the _high object but I do have a .mtl file in the correct folder and I make sure to export materials with the OBJ.

I have attached the maya files and the exported _low and _high OBJ files and mtl files

thank you

You will need to use the FBX format.

At least that was my experience.
The OBJ file contains "only the mesh" information and references to the material files, but does not hold the "vertex painting" data needed to generate the Color ID map.

As justaviking mentioned, if you want to bake color information from an OBJ file, you will have to choose the Material color in the baker parameters.
Don't forget your log file. It can be exported from the Help menu of the software.

Oh!  I thought I had to use FBX (not OBJ) to generate a Color ID map.  Thanks for mentioning that option.

I was still finishing my first cup of morning coffee while reading this, and already learned something new today.  :)
