Author Topic: How Can I Get My Screen Looking Like A Screen..?  (Read 1296 times)

Hello everyone!

I've got a couple of things that I need help with if you have the time please!

Firstly I've created a Smart Material for my sci-fi crates but when I've added the layer for the screen display the normal and height maps underneath it show through so that it doesn't look like a display screen. I've tried turning off the normal and height buttons for the layer but it doesn't make any difference. I've added a screenshot below so you can see what I mean:

I'm also having problems putting an Alpha on top because when I do the Alpha is always out of focus as you can see from the two screenshots below:

Many thanks in advance for any help! ;D

You need to pick a "blend mode" that will overwrite the lumpy texture of the layers below.

See the picture with numbers and arrows (below).
The default mode for Height is "Ldge" (Linear Dodge), but the normal mode (not be be confused with the Normal channel) will "overwrite" where you paint.

In my case, I used a mask when painting the shiny red layer.  You could use a perfectly smooth material if you wanted to.  (Ignore Layer 1.  It is empty.)

As for the blurry stencil, just for grins, what happens to it if you change your resolution from 2k to 4k?
It might be that easy, or there might be something else going on.  I don't know if you are greatly zoomed in or not.

Here is a stamping I applied... currently at 1k...

And with no other changes (not even re-stamping), here it is at 2k...

Brilliant, thanks for that!

I've got my display sorted but I'm still having problems with the Alpha. I'm going to try and increase the resolution of it in Photoshop and see if that sorts out the problem. I currently have it 1600 x 1600 pixels at 300dpi which I think is causing the problem with the blurry text.

Thanks again for all of your help! ;D
