i am using substance painter for a day. so please excuse my ignorance.

i watched some tutorials prior to installing it.
so i started with a very simple box in 3d max.
assigned a material, unwraped it and send it to substance painter.
the mesh and UV map looked ok.
i painted a bit and exported maps.. all fine so far.
then i added a little handle on the box in 3d max (all is one poly object).
unwraped it again, assigned a material to the box (ID 1) and one to the handle (ID2).


when i import that mesh into painter it look like this:


some of the polygons are assigned to the wrong texture sets.
of course when i only use one material on the object all looks fine.
i am not using a highres mesh on import.
i just want to try some basic stuff in substance painter. to get a feeling for the workflow.
so i just import a single low res mesh.
what i am doing wrong?
i guess my FBX export settings are not correct.
but i use the 3dmax to substance bridge, so the settings should be correct, not?
when i manually export as OBJ with faces as triangles, all looks fine:
