Author Topic: WIP: Old Fender Stratocaster  (Read 1750 times)

This is a WIP of my third project using SP and Modo. I found the modelling to be quite challenging, but I have to say I'm finding the texturing process in SP far easier than it is in Modo and makes texturing a real pleasure! Everything apart from the front panel has been textured in SP.

I've still to adjust the textures on the guitar strings and amp. Apart from that I'll be fine tuning the lighting and that's about it I think.

Honest feedback is much appreciated.

Cheers!

It looks pretty cool already, I'd just get the roughness a little bit down on the red painting since most of the guitars have like a glossy coating material  ;D.

Very nice.  :)

I don't play guitar.  My son does.  I listen.

I was curious about the frets.  They look really "copper-colored."  Is that intentional and correct?  I looked at several photos on Google, and they all seem to be more silver rather than copper.  I realize things like that can vary, but I figured I'd ask.

Two other thoughts:

a) Get rid of the graffiti.
It is in the center of the image, and detracts from your awesome guitar.  And it looks like it is spray-painted, but is small text, so it doesn't look like it would really have come from a can of spray paint in the real world.  I know I'm being harsh on it, but I really hate to see it detract the from the other beautiful work.  Maybe put something more subtle there to avoid a large empty space.  Or you could reposition the camera a bit; maybe slide the camera to the right, and then rotate left, so the in-focus guitar takes up more of the right-half of the image, and the out-of-focus speaker/amp takes up about the same amount it currently does, and that way you have less blank wall.  I hope that made sense.

b) Consider adding some dirt and grime in the crevices between the floorboards.

I really do like the guitar a lot.  Very nicely done.

Thanks for the comments!

@justaviking:

Your'e not being harsh, you have to tell it like it is otherwise you don't improve. Good point about the frets, they are to coppery, as to the graffiti, I wasn't sure about it so it's good to get someone else's opinion.

Cheers!

Thanks for being so gracious.

I was also being honest (as you requested) when I said your work was really good and that I liked it.  :)

Nothing to add, I very like your texturing, it is well done  ;) .
You efficiently damaged wood on the guitar and the chair.

The only, thing that I do will tweak a little bit is the floor.
For me it"s look like a very old wood floor BUT with very nice and clean joints, non-worn joints.
My first impression about the floor was "it is look like a "Pvc wood flooring".

Maybe it is what you want to produce, but I would see more a lighter wood like this maybe

Personal artistic opinion of course  ::)

Thanks Lione,

Yes I agree about the floor, it needs work, thanks for the link!

Cheers

So went back and re-textured the floor and adjusted a few other minor things and I'm relatively happy with it. There's more I could do so I may revisit this after I've gained more experience to improve on it.

Thanks for all the constructive feedback!

Picture, please?

(Not for me to critique, but to see the changes.  And yeah, there's always something more a person could do.
 That is so true.)

The image should be above in the original post, graffiti gone, floor changed etc.

Cheers

D'oh!  I just jumped past it to the bottom of the thread for the "new" post.

Yeah, I like it a lot better without the graffiti.

Super awesome!  Great job all the way around.
Thanks a bunch for sharing, and I look forward to seeing more from you in the future.
