Author Topic: Irregular Stacked Stone Wall?  (Read 1254 times)

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for creating an irregularly stacked stone wall. I've made countless "stacked" stone/brick walls, but I need something that feels more like it has stones stacked into appropriately sized spaces. Something like in the image below. I'd like to avoid doing a sculpt and do it all procedurally, of course.

I feel like you should start with cells.  They are procedural enough to create a "random" pattern for the base of the shapes

I feel like you should start with cells.

I was thinking the same thing.  Possibly followed by a 2D transform or tiling it 2x or 3x vertically to make them more "flat" rather than "round-ish" (for the 2nd picture).

I tried cells myself out of curiosity but it doesn't quite give the right look. You might be able to mix in some random larger shapes to break it up a bit though.

Yeah, I should have replied here too.  I tried my suggestion (briefly) but wasn't very happy with the results.

I mean you could try a tile sampler route, I gave it a 10 minute attempt at basic shapes and it *seems* to come out in the right kind of way. Image attached
