Hey guys. Here is my attempt at modeling / texturing the Heavy's minigun from Team Fortress 2. Trying to mimic the art style was a challenge for me since there are so many subtle details that are easy to screw up. I think I'm happy with the results for the most part.  :)

Modeled in 3ds Max and textured / rendered in Painter.

Yep, I was using a mix of the concept art and in-game model as reference. Trying to replicate those fake brush strokes on the diffuse was tough, but fun.

Nice work! Do you mind to share some info on the "faked paint brush strokes"?
I was going to try something in this direction, too.

Cheers!

Thanks! I'm sure there are other ways of doing it, but I used a Default Hard brush with the "Shape Square Squeeze" alpha set to 100% hardness. I then set the opacity to something super low and added the strokes manually. You could probably play with the brush's jitter settings to make this step less of a pain, but I personally couldn't get that to look right. After that I just used the eraser with different alphas as a mask to get that splotchy look.

This guide on Polycount really helped me understand TF2's style.
