Hello,

I am a Maya user currently learning Houdini, this is my first project rendered with Mantra and textured with Substance Painter. These two softwares are an amazing combo.

Very artistic.
Dark, and a bit foreboding, but well done.
Thanks for sharing.

Very gloomy. I like it very much. The textures really support the atmosphere very well.
You have a slightly brighter version of this on your artstation, but I like this darker version more. Something about the lighting feels a bit off on the brighter one.

I really like the breakup in color from the yellow support structures. It's also nice how this color comes back in the road markings. However, I feel the largest yellow support really pulls in the eye, while I doubt this is the main focal point of your image.

Good point.  Now that you mention it, my eye went their first, to that yellow overhead beam.  It's easy to miss the tryke.

What if the beam was toned down, and the yellow painting on the floor was enhanced (slightly), especially near the tryke.  Not a lot, not so it looks freshly painted, but enough to draw your eye to the heart of the composition.

Also, the tryke is between the areas of light.  Purposely hidden, I suspect.

I still like it, though.  :)

P.S.
Is "tryke" a non-American spelling of "trike" (which of course is an abbreviation of tricycle)?

Thanks for the comments.

@ eggfruit, yes  the version in my artstation portfolio is a bit brighter, I changed it after receiving some comments. :P

@ both of you. Concerning the yellow beam, I'll probably do some test to make it a bit smaller. I had a version where the yellow painting on the floor was a bit more clean and bright, but I didn't like it as much as this version.

Yes some trike were place in between areas of light.

I am pretty happy with the rendering quality of Mantra. The principle shader in Houdini  is very easy to work with, plugging textures coming from Substance Painter is quick and painless. I am bit suprised by the rendering speed off Mantra, which I find a bit slow, this 1080p image took 4 hours to render and I am currently rendering a 4k version which will take around 15h. I am sure once I will have learn more tricks on how to optimize Mantra, it will go down a bit.

I might have made a mistake with the spelling of Trike , my native tongue is not english. But doing a quick search in wikipedia say that Tryke refers to Tricycle, so maybe it's ok then. Not sure anymore.

No worries.  That is part of the joy of an international forum.  You English is perfectly understandable, and you write better than a lot of people who use it as their only language.

Back to your art...  It's YOUR art.  :)  We can all comment, and we may or may not have good input.  Sometimes I offer ideas as part of a discussion and potential inspiration, and I may not even take my own thoughts seriously.  Your skill exceeds mine.  If you do make any changes, it will be fun to see them.

I uploaded a new version in my porfolio with some small changes.

- The yellow beam has been reworked.
- The yellow paint on the arrows is now a bit brighter and less damaged.
- The yellow line in the middle are now closer to the camera.
- The red Tricycle is closer to the camera
- The brightness and contrast have tweaked a bit.

Very nice indeed.
Cool to see how a few small changes can make an image look a lot more balanced.
The trike also feels more like the focal point. Good idea to move it a bit closer to the camera.
